It doesn't matter what they do, someone will not like it. -Obviously.

But, since it's their contest, the prizes are offered by their sponsors... it makes sense to me- your entitled to your opinion of course but I am entitled to mine and mine just happens to be different.

I've entered a few contests that almost always seem to link back to Facebook in some way - you either have to log on to the sponsor's page and like them or something similar to complete your entry process. Social media sites are a godsend of free advertising for businesses and they are taking full advantage of it. Lord help me when everything goes to Twitter, Lynkdin (or whatever it's called) and all the others that are escaping my brain right now ... I've resisted them for the most part because to me they are way more annoying than Facebook. At least on Facebook I have free games to play and have met some really great people that I have played with for several years. I don't post personal stuff on there at all, maybe post a picture or tell a friend happy borthday once in a while.

You can still have a FB account and keep it quite private. You don't have to have anything but your name and birthdate to open an account. Find M* in the search bar, like them, and you don't have to have anything else. Once the contest is over you can close your account. No harm no foul. Seems easy enough to me
You should check out our FB Group

I am looking for the numbers to be significantly higher this time around.
I should clarify, I do not PERSONALLY like to get involved in public activities on Facebook. I like to keep my own stuff as private as possible, and that can't happen on an open public page on Facebook, for exactly all the reasons listed.

Unfortunately last week FB opened up their privacy policy, so you'll need to open a "new" email account and use a fake name (I never release my real birthdate just me) then used that email to open a FB account, then "like" M* so you can vote.. a lot of trouble but I may do that just for this. Like Marilyn said we can always shut it down afterwards... Hope no-one has Night-Owl name taken Or *hootyhoot*??

Anyone doing a google search it will now shows things posted from FB - you name and whatever is posted on your timeline.. they just changed this privacy/non-privacy policy so I'm only trying to let people know if you use it or haven't.

hmm I will get a new free email account - I think for us that don't want FB for real that is a good way to go for this contest, makes everyone happier?

NightOwl or HootyHoot or whatever :-)

I did not even think about that... that we can ask people to go vote for us. ...... And my Mom lives with us and I have talked her into making a quilt for this but I will need to upload the picture of her quilt and she will NOT go on Facebook. I mean I don't think she or I will win but it is fun to be part of this. I do hope they let me upload two quilts , hers and mine. oh well.. guess we will find out
My sweet grown daughter has been teasing me a little about this challenge she said "don't shame the family" hahahaa

Not to stir up the stew here, but you all do realize THIS is a public forum. On Facebook, I can control who sees my timeline, who can post to my timeline, and what I want to see. On here, it is all or nothing. Facebook might default their settings to public view, but I can still go in and set it to private and restrict it. Just saying ......

I have FB, but a manageable number of friends. I know some people with over a thousand. Does the win go to those with the most friends?

That is what I am afraid of. In order to win you must be able to navigate social media to win the most votes. I have a manageable number of friends as well, but feel like I don't have enough to win a popularity contest.
