Question Pins - Flower on the end of it question

When watching several videos, I see some using a pin with a flower on the end. They say it lays flatter and lessens the fabric from puckering. Also certain types you can sew over it. But also I've read that they are much thinner than the standard pins with the little ball at the end and will bend easier. I usually have used the safety pin quilting type for sandwiching large projects and for smaller projects have used the ones with the ball on the end.

Do any of you use the pin with the flower on the end? Pros and cons? Can they be used with Pinmoors?

I have both kinds, thicker with the ball on the end and thinner with flower. The thinner ones definitely pucker the fabric way less. However, they do bend much easier and are SO thin, I seem to poke myself with them way more often and it hurts like heck!

The ones with the ball are thicker, pucker the fabric a lot more, but they really haven't gotten bent at all and I've used them for years.

I haven't used pinmoors so I can't say about those, and I don't sew over any pins, ever, even if you are "supposed" to be able to. It's just not worth it to me to chance breaking a pin or needle and having the pieces go flying or get stuck down in my machine.

    I hope that helps!

I love the flower head pins. Yes they are thinner and bend easier than the round headed pins, but they are much sharper and distort the fabric less than the other ones. I use them to atach quilt backs to my long arm leaders, they stay flat when you roll the quilt as you quilt along. I really love them. You will need to replace them as some get bent and need to be tossed.

I used the flower head pins when I took the paper piecing class. They are a lot thinner than the normal pins I use, but you have to be careful with your iron because the flowers are plastic.

I bought some pins that have glass heads but are as thin and sharp as the flower heads, the heads are much smaller than the yellow/white glass head pins, so they may work as well as the flower heads. They are a little shorter, though. Look for orange and green clear glass heads.

I bend them back, too, pretty easy to do. I have not tried pinmoors yet either so don't know about that.
I also have some similar pins with little butterflies on them.

If I need to mark rows, I use a different color for each row.

I use the flower head pins when I sandwich my quilts. I also use the quilting safety pins, but sometimes I don't have enough. I think they pucker less than the yellow head quilting pins.
I have found that I don't get stuck with a pin as much if I put the pin through all three layers, back up through all three layers and then put the tip of the pin back into the middle of the layers, and they stay in much better that way too.

Are the pinmoors those foam things? Did you know you can go to a building supply store and buy the earplugs in bulk and they work the same for a small fraction of the cost? I even cut them in two so I have twice as many!

If your using the one with the flower on the end, is it the quilting pins or patchwork pins your using? From looking at Amazon it seems there are differences in them per a review I saw.
Clover Quilting Pins ... 0.5 mm
Clover Patchwork Pins ... 0.4 mm

But if your using another brand, which one would you recommend?

    Thanks all for the replies.
