Default Paper piecing class part 3

There should be a section don't do this. lol

Went to class yesterday. It seemed all was going well. I was about five min late (more about that later). I'll try and make this short because I was there four hours and so many things happened.lol

The instructor had printed out the design on wax paper. That was easy to use but I think if I did this again I would use the paper from here with a lapel stick. It's really heavy for such small pieces and hard to tear.

I sat next to a very nice gal and we started giggling through the whole class. But I got singled out for being a trouble maker. And don't you two sit next to each other again! The manager was taking the class and was sitting across from me and I said I was just trying to make a friend and she grinned.

So the neighbor told me she thought the teacher was thinking we were laughing at her. Well maybe a little because she was very loud, bragging and a slap your hand with a ruler type. It was becoming quite comical. Then the girl across the other side of the table said I think it was because you were late. Five min?

What a day. I went to thank her for the class and I said sorry and was I really that bad and that's when she said don't sit together again. She used to be an elementary teacher. lol

    So what I learned ..
It's really good to have one of those add a 1/4'' rulers. I got to borrow one.

When you fold your fabric back to start your next piece be careful not to run over the paper. You can see in my green that I lost my point.

Wax paper is really hard to tear.

Read the instructions. lol Even though hers were written weirdly I didn't see the contrast of two colors and picked up my swirl charm pack. Very scrappy. I wasn't the only one though, so I felt a relief about that. The two clors looked way better though. Oh well.

Well, you little trouble maker, it's a good thing your instructor wasn't a Catholic nun. They beat you over the knuckles with a ruler. Ask me how I know.

I still find this an odd and unusual beginner piecing project. The add-a-quarter ruler really helps. You don't need one, but I like using one. I don't think I'd like using wax paper either. I usually use some vellum tracing paper which comes in a 8 1/2 x 11 tablet from most office supply stores. It's translucent and peels off nicely. It also works nicely in the printer when you want multiple copies of the same design.

Keep us posted and stay out of trouble!

I really hope this teacher & or the owner gives you an assessment sheet to fill out on her performance.

I love your work and wax paper? That would have driven me crazy.

You make me laugh. Man she would not want to be in any class I teach. When I worked for the fabric store a million years ago and the sewing teacher got a promotion to store manager in another store. I asked who will teach your class...dumb question she said YOU will. I said I don't know how to teach , her reply was teach how you sew and they will love you. that was around 25 years ago and I am still teaching and shes right they love me , because I am not stuffy can get on the floor and roll with laughter and we have a great time and everyone learns...sewing is fun with the right instructor. Perfect is for sissies, I have never taught by the book .

I will behave myself But I thought when you get together with (I think about 8) women you should be making friends and having fun, She was stern and bragged a lot about her teaching. She taught elementary, wood class, metal class, she went on and on. This was at the top of her voice for the whole dang class. She did give one on one and pulled everyone over to show some technique, but it got stressful that you couldn't laugh. If I see her name on the list for a teacher I might skip it.

Lisa Thanks, It came out awful. lol

Iris I would love you as a teacher My girls, especially one always's thanks me for teaching her. I felt obligated to thank this teacher but she was nice in the end. She just called me out in front of everyone and I had to shut up the rest of the day. I felt like I was 10.
