    Default Needle turned applique....

Wow...needle turn applique is harder than I thought it would be. I just did my first attempt and even though I have a very simple pattern it is tough to get the curves right. I've watched Jenny's tutorials about five times, so feel like I've got a good beginning.

How long does it take to become good or even mildly good at this?

I thought I'd like but I hated it! I like the look of machine applique just as well so I think my first needle turned applique will be my last. Here's the project that I designed myself. I don't know how to quilt it so there it sits in the UFO pile. What are you working on?

Cyndi, why don't you echo quilt the flowers; it is very pretty..I would echo quilt around them until I got close to the edge of the background fabric...it is very pretty...and I will never do needle turn applique...I like machine applique just fine!

87 years...LOL! Cyndi I love your quilt. I'm doing a simple pattern that I found here:

So far I'm having a tough time, but I'm watching some of Jan Patek's youtube videos now. I'm determined to conquer this!

Gayle, I just love those flower pots! Good luck with the applique. Hope you don't hate it as much as I did!

Susie, I almost feel like I should hand quilt this little piece since I did all that work to hand applique it, but I haven't hand quilted in years. I wonder if it's like riding a bicycle....

that's how i learned to applique many years ago. I did a couple baby quilts for my own children with it. They turned out quite nice, but I doubt i would do it now. it's just too hard on my hands to do a lot of it. I do prefer to look of it but any applique i do now is by machine
