    Default Wimpy rag purse. Help.....

I made a rag purse for a friend and it soooo wimpy!! It just lays in a heap. She says this is how it is supposed to be. Anyone ever made one before? I thought they were sorta wimpy but didnt know it would be THAT wimpy!! Any suggestions? She wants several more, but I dont know if I can handle making such wimpy bags. Lol

Could you try a lightweight fusible interfacing like wonder under or something of that sort?

Well I say if that's what she wants that's what you give her. Then you can make some others that aren't so wimpy.

I think you would have to make the rag purse and then make a lining and put some kind of batting, I use warm and natural, between the two. The batting or stabilizer would need to be whole, not cut up into the rag pattern and then attached to the back side of the ragged or outside, and then sometimes I put a second layer of W&N attached to the lining side to.

Quilting cotton is too thin, its gonna sag, no matter what - I've been using old curtains that have a bit of body and it has a bit more staying power, I line mine and use batting. If you use the thin cotton then if you box the corners don't trim them fold the excess toward the centre and put a stitch or two to secure it, this will make it stand up better. Hope you know what I mean . I can't upload photos as iPad won't let me Hope I've helped and not hindered !

I've made loads of totes, purses and a few are rag type. If you want it to have body, you would have to line and find some type of filler for the inside. Perhaps something like hat brim fabric. But hey, if your friend likes the look and feel, and you are getting paid, no worries. It does after all, take all kinds of people and happy clients are the best word of mouth you can have.
