Re: Which iron do you use?
I love my Reliable.....ordered it online......excellent steam and with 2 heating elements the bottom of the sole plate and the water are heated to perfection. You must use distilled water, but it has a filter that will protect the iron from any sediments or gunk, so I am thinking it will last for years and years! I have tried just about every iron out there and this is my fav!

So, can you leave your iron sitting down on that instead of upright? I've looked at them, but never picked one up.

Black and Decker. 7+ years and still working great. Similar to the one that iluvbaking showed a link for but mine has the silicone plate. Only issue is when you have to run the Clean cycle. Not easy to push and hold the dial on "clean" while shaking the iron from side to side to get the water to run out. Still a good buy and I'm getting another one just for my sewing. The other one will go back upstairs where we do most of our clothes, etc ironing.

I have a Rowenta and have had it for about three or four years. It did spit up a few times but I learned to use the self cleaning on it quite often and always make sure it's empty when I finish with it. Since doing this I have never had a problem. Love the steam it gives out.....

Re: Which iron do you use?
Reliable steam generator. I had leaky Rowentas and that was enough
Re: Which iron do you use?
I go for the cheaper irons, too... Just can't justify spending a fortune on an iron. I'd rather spend what little money I have on fabrics.

I have a T-Fal iron from Wal-Mart and love it!. They have one model in the store and a different one available online. I have the store model ($35). The one on the website is $49.

It's usually only for several seconds, but I have left my iron on the silicone rest for up to a minute or two in between pressing when I need to shift or move pieces into position. I've had no problems leaving it that long and I'm sure I could leave it longer, I've just never tried it yet. If I know I'll be awhile between pressings, I just put the iron upright. But the rests can take heat up to 450 degrees F so very durable. I just love it. It is really saving me having to put the iron in the upright position all the time while pressing and I can feel a difference in my hand and wrist when I'm done. I paid about $7 for mine and it's the best money I've spent yet on a quilting tool! :icon_happy:
