Are they insane?

Ok I know fabric cost has gone up....my daughter sent me a couple links for baby bedding she liked so I could get an idea because I told her I would buy it or make it.....depending on how cost effective it would be. She sends me this link and says its expensive but just to give you an idea...

She's having a girl and I'm over the moon! I guess I live on a different planet I can't believe that people pay this much for a bumper, sheet and crib skirt......

Oh, my goodness! I know you can make something that would be just as or even cuter and the pride your daughter would have knowing her DD was sleeping on something Grandma made would be much better.

anyone spending that much on 3 pieces of bedding would have to have rocks in their head. Made for the furniture yes but the bedding no way. I made all the bedding for my kids beds when they were small... so many better things to spend money on then expensive sheets. but then thats how I was brought up .

Now that is a super cute pattern set! Love the color. Now run to the most expensive Hip Department store and buy a Queen comfort set in that color pattern set and make it for 1/2 price. With enough fabric to make valances, extra crib sheets, diaper holder, wall hanging and God knows what else! :D

I think we need to go into the baby bedding business! That IS insane!

What??? $470 for a bumper, skirt and fitted sheet?? Crazy is the only word that comes to mind. I guess this is for people with more money than sense! :lol: :lol:

That's absolutely crazy, especially when most child safety consumer advocates and pediatric safety counsels advise NOT to use bumper pads due to suffocation or strangulation dangers. So now you're left with needing a skirt and a sheet. For that money you could make the sheets, skirt, curtains, changing table pads, etc. etc.

We live in a crazy world!

Brand name. Someone recommends it on Facebook, and a lot follow and buy it.

I guess they figure the "Custom Made & Made In America" tags allow them to charge crazy a$$ prices.
I am sure you can buy/make a set better than that. It was easier to buy the nice solid sheets than make them, since Sandy is right about what happens to the crib sheets.

See if you can find a set of the re-useable waterproof bed pads that they use in the hospital. They are cottony and will protect the mattress without the crinkly vinyl. Two meant that I could toss the icky one in the wash with the sheets and have a back up ready to go. They transition well to the toddler/big kid bed when they make the switch and are learning to sleep the night through without diapers. Again, much more absorbent that the vinyl mattress cover.

Crib sheets are easy peasy to make if you have a serger. I made several but it might be less to buy them with the cost of fabric.
Those bumpers are dangerous.
I bought a crib quilt from Pottery Barn and thought it was expensive but those prices are crazy.

Those colors are all over right now and I like the idea of getting the queen set and having enough fabric for a valance as well as all the other stuf mentioned. TJ max has a couple sets in this color for between $50.00 and $80.00 and any mainstream store has it too; walmart, target, Kohls (use your 30% coupon) Bed Bath (use your 20% and your $5.00 off on the same item). $470.00 would feed a family of four for two weeks. Just saying.

I wish I had customers stupid enough to pay those prices.

Wow! Yeah that is a lovely set, but the price is outrageous! I'm sure there are people that pay it though!

Lol I knew other quilters would agree with me. I actually found the exact fabric at fabric.com, I'm going to make her a quilt, matching sheet from polka dot fabric and a diaper stacker. I haven't had a new born in 11 years so I didn't know about the bumper pads so ill skip them. Thanks for all the suggestions!!

That's wonderful you were able to find the fabric!. I was going to say if the crib, chair and kitty came with it I would get it.

That is crazy! My daughter got a set that had bumpers, crib sheet, ruffle and a quilt for just over $100. That price seems a little extreme to me...actually, a lot extreme. I say make it. The bumpers can only be used until they start rolling over and they don't go in their cribs right away anyway, so total use is only about 2 months max.

Uhm-no way! We have had several babies born recently to friends of my DD, all in the 25 -30 year range, some very spoiled young ladies, and this tops them! I agree with the suggestion to find something similar in yardage or sheets and make it with a little love added!

Your daughter's lucky to have you! That price tag is unbelievable.

there is an element out there that does believe more is better. I work in a bakery-we have had people pay $200-300 for a birthday cake for a 1 year old. 3 tiered cakes(fancier that a wedding cake) for a first graders birthday party. don't even ask about the 1st. communion cakes(silly me, I always the though the focus should be on the sacrament). with all the excess in the early years, what is left to look forward to?

And we wonder why our kids and grand children think that they should get whatever they ask for, regardless of price. Needs to be nipped in the bud early.

I'm a little guilty of this. I'm an only child so I got a lot of presents. I wouldn't say spoiled because I was the only kid in my whole family and I felt really loved. One uncle just gave me books. Another played Santa. I had a lovely childhood. Then when I had my step kids and then my own I bought about 5 presents or more each, Now my own kids want to buy more than one item. My oldest will make earrings, a bag to put them in and oh what else?

I was a baker and didn't charge enough. $25 for 1/4 sheet and $75 for a full. I did hand painting and delivered too. It's back breaking. People can't afford wedding cakes so I kept it low but in the end doing it at home and washing your own equipment wasn't worth it, So I went back to sewing. :)

I'd go buy a good high count percale sheet and applique or use machine embroidery to make a set.

Okay, not anything I would buy ever! Ridiculous! I made the bumpers for my DGS for a song!

OH MY...they ARE insane!!! There is no way on God's green earth I would pay that much for three pieces of bedding for myself, much less a new baby that is going to spit up, wet etc on the bedding. I have two grandsons that I love to the moon & back but I can & did think of much better ways to spend $$ on both of them....and thank the Lord that their mothers (DIL's) were much more cost conscious than this! That is highway robbery!

Not near as insane as someone who would spend that kind of money on it!

Holy cow. For that price, the crib should come with it!

Lol yeah she knew no way I would pay for that, she sent it to me for the design. She said she liked it. My monsters have learned from a young age I can make almost anything, sometimes it's a curse lol

Greedy is another term that comes to mind. Congrats on the new baby.
