Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
I've only been quilting since April but I've managed to collect a lot of fabric in a short time. I saw this tutorial
Smashed Peas and Carrots: Mini Fabric Bolts and Some Studio Organization
and was determined to replicate it.
I love the system! All I can say is I'm glad I started early. If I had a closet full of fabric, I would have gone crazy folding it all. But now I can simply fold new fabric as it comes in.
By the way, the comic book "boards" were cheap at my local store. A dime each. I used all 100 with my "tiny" stash. Will have to buy more before new fabric comes in!
If you're curious, I bought the bookshelf (Billy) at IKEA. I also bought the rolling cart at IKEA. I sew on my dining room table (no dedicated sewing room = sad face) so rolling my supplies in the cart to the dining room table makes things a lot easier. This bookshelf is in my laundry room -- the only space I had for fabric storage.
Excuse the drawing photo. I attached it by mistake and can't for the life of me figure out how to delete an image. Is it just me, or does anyone else find the forum hard to use?

Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
Love your bookshelf and rolling cart (in my favorite color!). Looks like you are on your way for an even larger stash.
Don't worry about that extra photo - I'm sure I've done that too. It did make me giggle though cause it reminded me of putting together a bookcase with my dad. It said it would only take about an hour and a half to put together. HA! After several hours, it still wasn't together - boards weren't fitting, holes not large enough, etc. etc. About 3 weeks later we finally finished it. Gave us some giggles.
Hugs,

I have the same rolling cart! I love the color of it. It is also in my sewing room. It holds whatever i need for the current project i am working on. I had pinned it on Pinterest and my other half surprised me with it for Christmas!!!
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
You are so organized. I sewed on the kitchen and dining table for years and years. I was never smart enough to get a rolling cart though.
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
You are one step ahead of me. I'm still working on organizing my stash. My problem is, I can't seem to stop buying long enough to get it organized the right way. Lol. I'm pretty good with putting things where they belong once I figure out where they belong.
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
Great idea with the bookcase. I actually have a Billy bookcase with the same glass doors. It's got books in it now, but maybe I need to empty it to make room for my fabric.
I LOVE the cart. Where did that come from?
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
I absolutely love your shelving and rolling cart! Isn't it wonderful for have such a wonderful space where you can organize all your fabric and pretties?
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
Love your stash management! I'm jealous that you have IKEA close enough to shop for items, wish we had one in St. Louis.
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
I don't have one, but want one.....the rolling cart, that is. It's from IKEA. I think you need to look under "kitchen cart" to find it. I have seen several others with the same cart. I think I have even seen it on a tutorial (Fat Quarter Shop) being used by Lori Holt. I love the bookcase with the doors on it!

It came from IKEA, too. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the cart.

Jean, I'm in mid-Missouri (90 minutes from STL). I had to drive all the way to Chicago for my IKEA binge! I hear KC is getting one in 2015. I can't wait!
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
I love the rolling cart! I may have to make my first visit to Ikea in search of one. I used my dining room when I first started quilting also. Thanks for sharing!
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
Aren't the comic cards the best! I'm almost done with my stash. It's so clean and neat! I wish I needed a cart because it's so cute!
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
Here's the cart in turquoise: RÅSKOG Kitchen cart - IKEA
And in dark gray: RÅSKOG Kitchen cart - IKEA
Price + shipping = 1 layer cake plus 3 charm packs (or 60.99)
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
Looks great! I really like the doors on your storage cabinet.

Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
This is awesome. Doesn't it feel great to get it all organized?
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
Thanks for the link! I'm off to order the boards...
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
It's smart to get organized early into your quilting life. Everything looks wonderful! Some days the forum cooperates with me and other days not so much!
Re: Fabric storage. Hooray for organization!
I don't have a dedicated sewing area either. My daughter, Amy, (AKA nyscpa2be) keeps moving back home so my sewing gets moved to wherever there is room. At the moment, I can't even find a pincushion.

Living room, big clear totes in front of the upright piano - there is at least one in there.
