Well done. I think that is going to look great. So when you have restored one, are you thinking about taking this on as a money earner???? These old quilts are priceless to some people who would love to have them fixed up, but know nothing about sewing or quilting. If those other quilters didn't want to take on the job...perhaps there could be a niche market there for you. Of course you would have to charge top dollar for all the hours and brainstorming goes into it..... You're thinking "she must be joking", right??

Well, looking rather impressive now. I remember when you were first approached to do this, thinking it would be a nightmare at best. I think she will be very pleased with what you are doing. Ha, at least she better be!

Lorie, you will see that Kathy always thinks Roxy is a little puke (brat). It must have something to do with us all liking her little sister better than her.

Kensington, My first reaction to the photos was honestly to physically cringe. Those pieces are stunning and I just can't imagine the beauty of that quilt before it was cut. You truly are a "Master Quilter". This is just amazing work. Congratulations on a job going very well and I can't wait to see the final results.

Lisa you hush!!! Here is the story; Years ago when I was living with her for a time, it was the end of a day and her 3 boys were getting on her nerves - when all of a sudden she said (or yelled) "GO TO BED YA LITTLE PUKES!!!!"
That cracked me up so bad and I never forgot it! So that is where "little puke" comes from.

Okay... Here is why I am excited! I'm doing a quilt restore as many of you know. This quilt was hand made X stitched by my husband's grandmother in the early years of her marriage. Well, when she passed it was in her belongings and Dh's cousins wife picked it. It was in bad shape, stains from storage, thread bare, tears, holes and rips.... Just worn out.

She tried to clean it, she took it all over the state to find a quilter who might help her repair or restore it. No one would. So, she cut it into pieces thinking she could make it into something for her nieces to have. Then... she got discouraged and called me. She brought it out. She also washed it after cutting.

So, we brainstormed and I told her what I thought I would do with it. And what I could do, and would not do. We went shopping and bought fabrics I would use... and I brought it home. I've very proud of this stage in the quilt. It will be 3 throws or wallhangings, not made for heavy use. The bulk of the quilt is still very fragile and even ripped just to work with it. I've had to patch some.

BUT... BUT... after tons of fussy cutting, basting, fusible web, applique and some strip pieces added, I am proud to say I have the centers of my blocks ready to go. I have a tiny rose bud on cream, and a tiny green dot fabric I will use to build these blocks, and snow ball the big rose block. Then, I still have four really large Rose Bouquets that must be trimmed, basted and appliqued, and I still have the center of the quilt to fussy cut and try to use, it's not in good shape at all, but I'm EXCITED about this phase.

Long way from done... but on my way!

I've been waiting to read what you were so excited about and I must say it was well worth it. What an exciting job for you! The blocks are gorgeous so far and I am excited to see what you do with these quilts!

You know, I've always looked at old, damaged or worn quilts and thought to myself... "I could do this or I could do that with it"... so I don't know. I know when I saw this it wasn't long before I was trying to explain to her that I could applique some back to life in a block and piece other parts, and then log cabin some or create some new blocks to combine with it. She looked very confused, but listened and I think she believed I could do what I believed I could do. LOL.

She caught the vision. I really wanted to get on to the log cabin part of the Rose buds, or the snowballing of the Roses, but we had one of our sons here and we were moving furniture switching some bedrooms around. Now, I'm just too tired.

Tomorrow is another day!! (said in my best Scarlett O'Hara voice)....

Kensington, you have done a be-a-u-ti-ful job! After hearing your description of the original state of the quilt, I couldn't believe my eyes seeing your photos. I had to do a double take. Not only is everything gorgeous, it all looks brand new, too.

Really, you may have a career in restoration ahead of you.
