Default Best pen for signature quilts?

Does any one have experience with using permanent makers on fabric?
    Do they fade over time?
Any tips you can give me on using them, and what brand would you recommend?

I am going to make this quilt with my 10 year old GD next week for her bed.

Before she comes to stay with us we are having a family gathering.
I thought it would be really neat to have all her cousins, aunts and uncles, sign brightly coloured fabric squares that the we can include in the quilt, but I am scared to do this if after a few washes they disappear.

    Thanks

Pigma pens work well but they are thin. Just remember to set the color with a hot iron.

I have some felt tip markers for fabric and use them in conjunction with the pigmas.

It is best to have interfacing behind the fabric before writing/drawing on it so the fabric won't wiggle. Even a layer of freezer paper works well.
