Default Quilt for our bed...what to do??

I'm planning to make a quilt to go on the bed in our master bedroom. All the patterns I am drawn to for our bedding have a lot of white fabric in them. I'm so nervous about making a quilt with a lot of white though as I'm afraid it will get dingy fast with being slept under every night and three kids crawling all over it during the day. With all the time and money I will have to put into it, I don't want something that is going to look horrible in a couple years. I also don't want something that makes me cringe every time I see the kids or dh on top of it!

What to do? What to do? I'm almost thinking of just nixing the idea all together as nothing else catches my eye for our bed! Don't get me wrong...there are tons of quilt patterns without white that I love, just not for our bed!

Or am I just over thinking this and the white fabric doesn't get icky looking very quickly?

I think it does get worn looking more than other fabrics when used in bedding that will be constantly used. None of my quilts are ever used daily, so they really don't. They launder nicely and look fresh. But, daily use will wear it faster. I made bedding for my room, and used colors. I just made another Coverlette for my new guest room using Jenny's Layer Cake Quilt... It took three layer cakes to make an over sized King bed cover... very little white. I think I will be pleased when it come home from the quilter.

My other was in the Moonstruck fabric line. I didn't want large patches of white either... but I have a few, I did an 18 inch Double Slice for that one.

But, why I think it will, is that I made a Charm pack tote, using Seascapes, and the white charm squares started looking a bit dingy after just a few uses. Now, it really needs washed. LOL. So, I do think your concerns are warranted, especially if you have small children who will be climbing in and out and on your bedding. Which, most do. LOL.

The quilt on my bed has a lot of white in it. It has been thru 3 grand kids and still looks fine. There are a few minor little stains, but it was made to be used, not as an art piece, to be protected from everything. Make what you like and remember, there is always Spray and Wash and Oxy Clean.

You can change the fabric in any pattern you please. Replace the white with cream or any other color you choose.

I made a quilt for my infant GD with Fairy Frost and white charm squares and she spits up on it, has pooped on it and more. My 5 yr old GD spilled chocolate pudding on it. Dreft stain spray to the rescue. Out of the washer and dryer it is pristine. No stains, no worries.

Make the quilt you want and if whit will make you cringe than change that white.

    Good luck!

My comforter is a goose down, all white comforter and it doesn't get dirty or dingy. Even with daily use and 3 little dogs.

May I suggest instead of a plain white, use a white with a small scattered print instead. That covers a multitude of evils lol

Thanks for the replies! I think I may go ahead and just make what I want and hope nothing too bad happens. As Marilyn said, I want it to be used and not an art piece so if it gets icky it will just give me an excuse to buy fabric and make another!

I was going to suggest this also. Another option would be an off white or cream small print.
