    Default Where do you sew?

Where is your sewing space? Do you have a designated sewing room? Is it the spare bedroom? The dining room? The family room? The master bedroom? The basement? The attic? A storage shed? The garage? The hallway? The kitchen?

Do you have to clean up after you sew each time? Is you space big enough for you? Have you outgrown your space? Are you completely happy with your sewing space?

I sew on the kitchen table.
My space is defenetly not big enough but I make doe.

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The stash to make a quilt to help me cope,
A quilt to give to comfort those I love in times of hurt, fear and uncertainty.
And the courage to keep on sewing when life itself seems held together by a single thread of hope.

I wish I had a dedicated sewing space! Right now, I'm 48 hours away from the moving truck coming to my apartment (aka Dad with a uhaul trailer). So my sewing space is a folding table in my LR. At Mom and Dad's, sewing takes place on the kitchen table. But we are trying to make my bedroom there into a combo bedroom and sewing room - we have two of the walmart $15 bookcases that are about 30 inches high - we're putting one on each end, and laying a luann door on top. The sewing machines and computer will go on that, with storage underneath. Cutting still has to take place on the breakfast bar in the kitchen - bending over a table hurts my back.

I sew in one of our spare bedrooms. I've thought of moving to the basement, garage or tearing down a wall. But, right now, I'm happy where I'm at. My room is a nice 12 x 12 with a large window. I really can't complain because I'm blessed to have space I do, especially since I did some space planning and rearranged everything.

I started on the kitchen table (45 inch round) in our old house that was 728 square feet total. I kept my mannequin in the closet. When we moved here I kept that mannequin in my daughters closet and sewed on our dining table. My daughter moved out 4 yrs ago and a little over 6 months ago I finally agreed to take her room as my sewing room. It is not even close to being done yet but I am getting there. I used to have to put everything away every time I wanted to feed anyone. Now I can leave fabric in the machine. It is wonderful to have a space that stays the sewing space. I also live with my hubby and son and my sewing room is truly the only girly room we have. I love it! Last night they were watching a show on TV I didn't like so I made tea, went into my sewing room and flipped through magazines contemplating ideas uninterrupted! I am blessed and I know that. If I didn't have a room I would seriously consider one of those armoires that opens up to reveal a sewing center.

My sewing takes place on the dining room table, I cut out my material on the floor, I also attach the batting and backing whilst on my knees! Its the only space I have and I am really lucky that my husband doesn't complain when I leave my work in progress! we do still have space to eat at the other end of the table.

My sewing room is in my living room/dining room. So whenever we have a birthday party or something at my house things get boxed up and put out in the garage. My intent was to set up out in my garage sewing but my daughter and her two boys moved back home so that got put on hold. Then everytime my husband brings stuff home from work or wherever it goes out in the section that I have worked on. Oh well one day.

I have a beautiful space in a spare bedroom. It is a nice sized room with a big window. I have 1/2 of it for my sewing and the other 1/2 is taken up by DH's and my computer. I have a cutting table, sewing table, and lots of storage to hold all of my fabric stash.

I would like to kick DH's computer out to have the whole room, but I'm pretty happy as it is
