Re: Where do you sew?
I cut on the kitchen island because the height is better and my back doesn't scream. Until last year I sewed there too and moved everything every night when we had dinner. For Christmas my son and husband built me a lady cave in the basement that os 20 x 20. No natural light and I have to charge up the steps to get to the bathroom, but it is awesome and so are they!

Re: Where do you sew?
I sew in my dining room/living room. I call it my studio. I have containers on the floor with fabric. I enjoy quilting right where I am. I have the TV on just for background noise. My husband works from home. Although he has an office upstairs, he generally works in the living room. I do enjoy being with him throughout the day. I asked him if he wanted me to set up my "studio" in one of the bedrooms but he said he liked me being in the same area as he was. (awww!) I will probably start storing things in one of the bedrooms upstairs. So that I don't have too much to clean up when we have company.

Re: Where do you sew?
I use a bedroom that was never used (by me) as a bedroom. I moved to this house after my girls were grown. DD 2 was here for a while, and DD 1 moved here for a minute. The DDs used the two 12x12 rooms upstairs for their bedrooms (it's a Cape Cod, so it's only a half story upstairs.). The room I use is 13x13 on the first floor, and I share it with my DGD's porta crib. We share well, but I need more table space. I should bust loose the now unused second floor and be in heaven. But, it's hotter than H-E-Double-Toothpicks up there; 1924 house=no A/C. Window units offer little help. And, I hate stairs.

Re: Where do you sew?
I started out in the dining room, but didn't sew as much, since I had to put everything away each time. So, I moved into 1/2 of the spare bedroom that we use as a computer room. Our only son talked about moving out - going away to college once he got his associates. In the meantime, I found and bought a used long arm, so had to re-arrange the computer room until our son actually moved out. I am sort of moved in to his room, but I still want to paint it. If we hadn't started the kitchen remodel in the middle of all of this, I would be much further along on my sewing room! Instead, I live through all of you that are actually finishing projects. One of these days, I will actually get some more sewing done.

Re: Where do you sew?
I have a great sewing room. I do alterations so I have a large sewing room in my basement. We have a large basement so when you come down the steps all you see is my sewing room. Ten years ago when we moved into our smaller house the basement was all open so my husband close the one side and made my sewing room. It is nice because I have a three way mirror and a curtain for my clients to change in private. It is nice when you can leave without having to put everything away.

Re: Where do you sew?
I have a spare bedroom that is all mine...and I love it...before this I was set up in the basement sharing the space with Steve's workbench and tools and Stephanie's freezer and refrigerater.....also the cat boxes were down there and the odor was terrible even though she kept up on it! I am so glad to have my own space....the other spare bedroom is our computer room with my desk and lap top and Steve's desk top and printer...both rooms are pretty crowded but I am very thankful for what I have...both of my machines are set up, I have a nice cutting station and a nice pressing station so I am a happy camper!

She called me in there and said, Mom, what did you turn my room into JoAnne Fabrics? (I felt so bad, she said she was only kidding) The next day, I moved everything in my family room. It's not the same, no privacy.

My daughter moved out in the Spring. Please don't feel bad for using her OLD room as your sewing room. That's what we are suposed to do when our kids move out.

Re: Where do you sew?
My sewing space is in our den. I could set up in our son's bedroom now that he has left the nest..........but I like being in the den. I'm close to the kitchen, the front and back doors.....for letting the dogs out and I like having a tv in the room. I usually watch dvd's like Wings while I'm sewing or cutting fabrics. My fabric is stored in the closet.......my machine is at one end of the room and my cutting table at the other end.

Box their stuff up in individual boxes, wrap it up with Christmas paper and a bow and drop it off on their front porch! Reclaim your sewing space!!

I agree. It's my house, and I can use the rooms for whatever I want to. If that means turning a bedroom in Joann fabrics, I will.
