Default Table runners and Pot holders - suggestions needed - easy

I'm thinking to do some table runners and pot holders for gifts. Not sure if to do just holiday theme or everyday ones. Suggestions needed on ones you've done. Machine embroidery design is also welcome.
For the pot holders, what materials did you use for insulating? Insul bright?

    Thanks

Julia, yes I use a layer of Insul-Bright and a layer of batting on the potholders that I make...

There is an easy 10 minute table runner on You Tube, and various pot holder tutorials too.

I just made my first pot holders this week using a log cabin block, insul bright (I used 2 layers) and a plain backing. I sewed them together and left a small opening to turn them so I didn't have to put a binding on them. Once I turned them I just sewed up the opening, sewed around the edges and then did a quick quilting. They turned out nice and didn't take very long.

I always figured you can take any block, or even plain fabric, and make it into a pot holder.

I have made several easy tablerunners with focus fabric, usually themed, and then add coordinating borders to make them large enough. Pretty simple.

Love the 10 minute table runner. Love pieced ones too. As Mary said you can take any block and turn it into a runner. Love doing place mats too. Do what trips your trigger. I do holiday and everyday ones.

I have a tut for quilt as you go in my notes. It's for placemats but it could easily be turned into a runner.

I made placemats, a small table runner, and pot holders for my daughter using a bali pop. the potholders were made in an oval shape with two pockets so they would be like an oven mitt. I also made a little pot holder for a pot handle. It was an easy log cabin but set on point so it looks sharp.

I used insul-brite for the potholders.

I've made placemats that had Christmas fabric on one side and Thanksgiving on the other. I figured they might get used more. You could do the same with a table runner. Just a thought. : )

If you have the half Hexi ruler, don't forget Jenny's Christmas runner. It looks special and sometimes folks don't treat themselves to holiday-themed goodies when they're busy taking care of everyone else.

Sewbizzy's quilt-as-you-go potholders inspired me to make a lot of them for myself, family and friends. I did those using their everyday kitchen colors. I used one layer of warm & natural and one layer of Insul-Bright as she suggested.. Using them makes me happy everyday!

Thank you all for the links and suggestions. I don't have the rulers for Jenny's tuts. Perhaps I can do a cardboard template?

I'm trying to find the potholder instructions on Youtube.

Used the 10 inch half hexagon to make christmas table runners, but wanted an everyday one. I live in the southwest, so I just changed the star to more southwestern. This is such an easy pattern! Hope the pic comes out.
