People have given me lots of holiday potholders. They spend most of the year in a box in the garage and I end up handling pots with a dishtowel. So I vote for generic ones that wont get put away. I have had a lot of block failures lately that are going to end up as potholders. I am going to try putting a layer of space blanket inside to see if that helps with heat deflection.

Sewbizzy - do you have a pic or a tute for your quilt as you go placemats? I'd love to see them.

When I make a table runner that I know will be used in a kitchen, I often use insulbright along with the regular batting, this way it can be used to set warm casserole dishes on.

I have made several runners with Jenny's zigzag tutorial. It is fast and fun, and easy to quilt. I have family and friends who like holiday fabrics and ones that like seasonal fabrics. I choose I fabric line I like and then decide who gets the finished work.

I like the zig zag table runner and the scrappy table runner.

Craft gemini has some really cute pot holders. I have made several sets for gifts. They are easy to make. One suggestion would be to cut the insul brite an extra 1/2" shorter than she says. There will be less bulk so sewing up the ends will be easier.

Thanks so much sewbizzy. These are very nice and look easy. I've never done qayg but maybe I should read up and try it.
