Okay I need to STOP!!!
Received an order from M* today....I knew it was coming, but I totally forgot what I had ordered (without referring to my saved e-mail confirmation). One layer cake (cream & sugar), yardage for borders & binding, 3 charm packs and a Jelly Roll!! I KNOW I had a specific pattern (one of Jenny's many tutorials) in mind for the cream & sugar, but cannot for the life of me remember which one. :icon_beuj: It was a tutorial that used that specific fabric line..... AND I have two more orders on the way from M*.
On top of all of that, I went for my second one on one training on my new Janome 6600P today and came home w/2 FQ that I actually did need for a work in progress, plus a Giggles charm pack, 3--1/2 yard cuts of sewing themed fabric (because I want to make a wall hanging for my sewing room, yeah right...sometime in the next century!!), and one yard of fall fabric "just because I love it and had to have it".
Is there a Fabric Lovers 12 step program somewhere?? :icon_question::icon_exclaim: I have enough fabric to last me for the next two years, if not longer!!! Is there any help for me? :icon_rolleyes:

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
You need to put a chain on your foot to your foot pedal and sew instead of shop. :icon_rofl:
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Terri you must be kidding! ROFLOL Have you seen Jean's stash or Sandy's or most of ours! Part of being a quilter or sewist is having a stash that will out live you! lol

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
2 years? I need to live to at least 132 if I want to use all of mine and I just ordered another squishy yesterday.
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Okay.....maybe now I don't feel quite as bad. And the idea of chaining my foot to my foot pedal just might be a VERY good idea!
Went back to the tutorials and found the one I wanted....it's the Tea Cup quilt. :icon_woohoo:
Keep telling myself if I would just arrange my fabric differently, it wouldn't look like so much....but who am I kidding. :) And I am fairly certain that the "collection" will only grow! :icon_bump:

No, I don't think I have......but I have seen several pics of different stashes, how they are arranged (or not) and do realize that mine hasn't taken on a life of its own....YET!! :D

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
I did some conservative calculations with my personal fabric stash.
I have approximately 225 bolts of fabric. I am not counting the numerous small pieces of fabric in my scrap stash.
Each bolt averages 25 yards of fabric
This leaves 5625 yards of fabric.
Now,
If I do 3 hours of cutting and sewing for each yard of fabric, this will give me 16875 hours of quilting time.
If I average 4 hours of sewing every day with my fabric, I will need 4219 days of sewing to go through my stash.
If I sew every day (365 days in a year) it will take me 11.5 years of sewing to get through my stash of fabric.
Enough to keep me busy for a while. :icon_tup:
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Ohhh myyyyy.......you have obviously been at this much longer than I have! You could open a small fabric store yourself!! In 11.5 yrs I will be just over 63 yrs old.....cannot even begin to wrap my mind around having/possessing/owning that much fabric. But I am guessing there is always room for one more piece. :D

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
LOL you guys are all so funny :D :D
I have a ton of fabric too - the last I counted I had enough for 17 big projects and many smaller ones.
I also buy fabric and then forget what pattern I bought it for :D
Is a nine patch part of a 12 step program??
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Makes perfect sense to me.....nine patch=step nine, four patch=step four, double slice layer cake=step two!!! :icon_rofl:

Terri..........step away from the computer mouse........take a deep breath......count to 10........lay down if you feel faint........repeat after me........I don't need the daily deal.........I don't need the daily deal.........I don't need th.........hey come back here......get off that computer!!!!!! :icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:
I saw the following phrasing on a quilt guild website.........and thought it was a good one!
You are not buying too much.......you are "augmenting your textile collection"........now doesn't that sound better! :D
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
I think you are doing fine. I am not one to promote a big stash - I don't want to out live it, that is for sure. Have you noticed my signature line? :)
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Love it!! I certainly do NOT have anything else that needs to be augmented!!! LOL I have passed on many a daily deal, but seem to always be able to find something that I "absolutely need". :D Between M*, Fat Quarter Shop & a couple of LQS I am doing plenty of augmenting. :icon_woohoo:

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
I usually do OK until some DD that is a JR or Layer cake comes along or thousandsofbolts.com has their $3.25 sale or I am in the LQS with no plans for my 25% off coupon. I try my best to buy for a specific project. So right now I have 2, 6 cube shelf unit things and one dresser drawer full of fabric. I have a DD with coordinating fabric coming and will not buy anything unless I need it to finish a project for a while. Unless a good DD comes up. I think it is impossible to just stop buying!!!

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Terri[SIZE=4][/SIZE I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but....NO ... there is no hope for you... None...

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Here's a hint..LOL.... I HAD to"forum less" and sew more.... hehehehehe..I just can't walk and chew gum!!

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
I fall off the program at least twice a month! I was so excited to see the Giggles charm packs on the DD. I thought the line wasn't going to be out until September.
But, alas, my finger wouldn't budge to click the "buy" button. I must have had some thoughts of guilt when I looked at my stash and all the orders coming in each week. I waited a few minutes to decide.........press that button or no? I decided NO. I know I should have felt proud of my restraint, however, the real reason was the fact that I couldn't remember what I planned to do with it and I already had a number of similar lines. Did I have a pattern in mind? Was this for a gift? By the time I left my guard down and went back, it was sold out.
SAVED!!!!:D:icon_wave:
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
I know what you mean! I really wanted the DD today but was able to keep myself busy and not order it.
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
You will get no sympathy or help here. We will only encourage you to buy more, lol. There is always room for more.
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
I can empathize. The last time I went to the LQS I left my purse in the trunk just to not buy anything extra. Thirty minutes later, went back for the credit card, lol. I have concluded it is my collection. Some people collect toys, others dolls, others tools, we collect fabric.
-
Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
LOL! Don't look at what you have, just keep looking ahead. More fun that way. Every now and then rearrange your stash and congratulate yourself on your good taste. Keep healthy . So little time, so many fabrics.!

Hihi, I canīt stop laughing :icon_rofl: You guys are too funny!
But seriously, every time I turn on the internet, somehow a site from a fabric shop appears and I see lots of beautiful fabrics I DESPERATELY need for a future project popping into my mind immediately. But my stash is still pretty small compared to others... so far.

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
:icon_rofl: Okay.....so no 12 step program, how about 12 great tips to organize an obviously growing fabric "collection" :) , a sewing room/area for easy flow pattern, and great ways to organize all of the other tools, rulers, thread etc etc that is also growing!! hmmmm......

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Good grief!!!!!! If I had to pay Aussie prices for that yardage it would cost me the same as a small apartment in one of the cheaper suburbs here!!!!!! ($123,750.000)

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
On a bit more serious note....taking up quilting and being determined to relax, enjoy and have fun with it this time (last time I tried 4-5 yrs ago, I started out trying to be the perfectionist that I think I am) and ended up giving up. With that in mind and the advice of my compounding pharmacist (that does my bioidentical hormones)....she has told me over & over again that I need "me" time and to take care of myself. So I decided to jump back on the quilting bus and have also taken up bike riding!! Purchased a bike about 6 wks ago and that was the first time in about 35 yrs that I had been on one, and yes, as they say....it does come back to you. I am now up to riding 5 miles/3days a week. (Patting myself on the back for that one.....I AM the queen of lazy!) Since the end of February I have lost just a hair over 47 lbs and feel better than ever!! Will be 52 the 20th next month and celebrate 33 yrs of marriage Oct 4th!! We have 4 grown sons that we are proud of....ages 27, 29, 30 & 31....I did survive and keep those nasty old gray hairs covered! lol Still having trouble fighting my perfectionist tendencies with the quilting....keep thinking of the quote/saying that I have read here on the forum more than once about if you can't see the mistake while riding by on a galloping horse that no one else will. Love that one!! Off to ride my bike in a bit, get my nails done and probably go in search of more fabric. When I went for my one on one training yesterday.....I had a JRR top completed but needed fabric for borders & binding & completed double slice layer cake squares that I also need fabric for borders & binding......but I get soooo side tracked when in the presence of so much beautiful fabric (and this is really a small shop) I totally forgot. :icon_beuj:

Thank you Lisa....thousandsofbolts.com is a site that I don't think I have heard of, if I have...I know I have not visited there. So that adds one more site to tour! :D

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Love the quote!! And like you I cannot walk & chew gum at the same time...that's why I am wearing a "stabilizing" brace on my right thumb because I tripped UP the stairs at work on Monday, July 29th. Nothing broken, just a bad strain. Thank goodness I am left handed. I am notorious for falling down stairs, off of sidewalks & up stairs! I have always said there is a reason that my Mother did not name me "Grace"!! :icon_rofl:

After these comments, I just HAD to peep at Sandy's profile... And I absolutely couldn't believe my eyes. That sewing room of yours is a dream, Sandy! (BTW: this is the link to album: http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/mem...wing-room.html)

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
I did good today - the DD is a template and I know what the rule is - if its a template, snap it up. I'm not buying it. I dont need it, don't have a plan for it, so I didn't buy it. BUT my LQS is having a 3 day clearance sale starting tomorrow. So off I go. :D More money for the local economy. M* will get more money from me, just not today.

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Oh my goodness!!! Sandy, if you see this.....is there ANYTHING that you don't do???? I feel like I am in hog heaven just having two machines. But seeing those old singers, makes me wish more than anything that I had the one that my Mother had when I was growing up...it was the machine I learned/taught myself to sew on. If I only knew then, what I know now...... :icon_umpf: After looking at the pics of your sewing empire (that's more than a sewing room!!) I know for sure that I am still a beginner's beginner and will be for a very long time. Love your space!!!

Re: Okay I need to STOP!!!
Well, I just looked at how much I have spent at MSQC in the past two years and how many things I have actually finished. Not good!
I really need to get a plan and start sewing! The ideas in my head and on my neverending list need to translate into finished projects! I AM glad that I am not the only one though.
