    Default Made my decision...

I've been coveting a nice, expensive (to me anyway!) sewing machine for awhile now. After months of dh always seeing me drool over them online, he gave me his blessing to go ahead and get one. My top contenders were the Pfaff Performance 5.0, Janome 7700, and Viking Sapphire 875q.

So what did I get??? I ended up purchasing a Brother PQ1500s Before dh gave me the go ahead, I had spent the money for an expensive machine numerous times in my head. Then when it came down to it, I couldn't actually go through with it. I think dh was shocked...and secretly relieved! The only reason I need/want a new machine is the extra throat space for quilting. My Brother PC420 is perfectly fine for piecing and garment sewing, and I do really like it a lot. So I decided it just wasn't worth it for me to spend so much money. I never use the fancy stitches on my current machine anyway so a straight stitch should be fine.

I've spent today rearranging my sewing room...er, I mean my bedroom...to give me more space for sewing. I think it will work out really well! I do need to go purchase a new chair though because the antique sewing stool I'm using now just doesn't cut it.

Lori, you are a good and sensible woman! Not sure if I could have resisted the temptation. I hope you and your machines make many lovely quilts together.

I am going through the opposite thing right now. I need a machine with more throat space. The plan was to buy the HQ Sweet 16 in September for my b-day. We can't do that now. I lost a lot of income and my income is all the extras we like. That and we need a new vehicle. So I am thinking of buying the Necchi Qs 60. It is a new line of Italian machines that the LQS is selling and the $1800 one is on special for $999 for only a couple more weeks. I am not spending that all at once but might see if we can work out a deal that allows me 6 months or so to pay it off. It has 9 inches of throat space and that is a dream for me.

I know you are going to love your new machine and I think you did what was right for you.

    Congratulations!

Lori - congratulations on your new machine. I know you will love it. I had a Brother, too and it was really all I needed for piecing but when it came to finishing, wow, was it difficult with the limited throat space. Now I have a machine with all the throat space I need (well, enough for me!) and I love it. You will be amazed what a difference increased throat space makes. Yeah for you and I know your husband feels the same way!!

Sorry about your loss of income The machine you are considering looks very nice even if its not a sweet 16 like you had hoped!

Lori! Congrats on your new machine. What ever works for YOU is the best machine! I do both clothing and quilting and did get the Viking 875 Quilt machine. Now that I have it (and LOVE the 10" harp), I find myself using more deco stitches on all my sewing machines that I didn't use before hahahha I bet Hubby was relieved too, and that is important when he sees you sewing happily away. Good luck with your new machine.

I have a Necchi Lydia II that is about 37 years old. It has been a great machine and has never needed any repairs. I'm not sure if they are made as well these days, but mine is all metal and very heavy. It has been a real work horse. It is basically in retirement now, but I pull it out occasionally when I'm doing some heavy duty mending.

Liz, the owner of the LQS replaced her own machine at home with a Necchi a few months ago and loves it so much that is why she is now carrying them. She is a HQ dealer as well and I figure if the die hard longarmer like her uses it then it should be great for me. She has the HQ Avante? and a couple other in her store and I always see her quilting away on them.

When I am back to myself I will get back to working and eventually get the Sweet 16 but for now I think the Necchi is exactly what I need. If we can work out a deal that is.
