How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
I live in Oregon and met a gal who wants to go to Jenny's new retreat. She lives 5 hours from it. We will have to save our $$ for a while to go.
How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan in person? Was it in her shop? At a class out of town? Will you tell of your experience?
And if you've ever been to M*, will you tell me what it's like compared to regular LQS? I'm dying to find out. I want to go so badly. Thanks.

Re: How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
I live about 2 hrs from Jenny's. I have been to her shop 4 times and have meant Jenny and her family. They are truly wonderful people. As you watch her tutorials you can see how much fun she is well she is exactly like that in person. I was over to see them a few weeks ago when she was making her commercial. They were all having a blast doing it. Natalie, her daughter, was at the checkout counter and I told her to let her know that Rita from Hiawatha said hi. She said oh come on back and see her. So they were on their break from the commercial and I got to visit with them all. I first met Jenny when they were at there old store. There new store is wonderful they have done a great job. We drove by the retreat which is right across the street from Jennys store. Jenny and her husband told me and my husband that we could go walk in the retreat and look at it but the workers were busy so we didn't do it. My sister and I are planning on going to their first retreat when they are ready. Hopefully they won't be booked up so fast that we can't get in. LOL We are also lucky that in Cameron, MO (which you go through to get to Hamilton, MO) is where Jan Patek lives. She told me to give her a call and come by and visit. How cool is that! Jan Patek is the Applique Queen and is a fabric designer for Moda. Braddock and Patek. She has lots of patterns! By all means if your friend is only 5 hrs away it is definitely worth the drive to come visit Missouri Star! Hopes this helps you out. Hope that you can come to the retreat also!

Re: How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
I've met her several times and as others have said, she is the "real deal" whether. On screen or in person. The shop is so well stocked with great fabrics, you can find anything your little heart desires while shopping there!

Now I know why most people type "Yeah, what she said." The system won't just print out "Ditto..." :)

I've been to the store once, but Jenny wasn't there that day. I loved the store though! My dd and I loved looking at all the fabric and quilts on display! It's definitely worth a visit if you can make it!

Re: How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
My husband was going to take me a month ago because I kept talking about it, but as the weekend got closer I told him we would wait and go at a later time. I didn't think it was fair to him because he works all week and only has the weekends off plus he's on call every other weekend since he works in maintenance. Right now I get to stay home so I have more free time. He was relieved I put a hold on it because of all that time in the car and using up the weekend. He said we will go this fall sometime and he will use some vacation time to take a day or two off so it won't seem so cramped.

I am lucky to live in Olathe, Kansas, just an hour and a half from M*QC. I have visited the shop three times and have had ten quilts quilted there. I love the store and all the employees! Their fabric is displayed beautifully, and everyone is SO helpful and eager to assist. Definitely my favorite shop in the kc area.

Hello fellow Oregonian! I have not yet been to M* but I'm hoping to save my $$ and go after they get the retreat up and running! Hubby says "have a good time!" - he has no interest in going so it will be a solo trip but I'm sooo excited to go!

Re: How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
Not yet!!! It is on my list of things to do. We were over in the United States in 2009 and again last year, but I only found about M* this year (Bummer!!). If I had of known then what I know now, I would have gone there for sure. Am hoping to get back over there again, hopefully next year. Will have to stop buying fabric (bwha ha ha), and may have to sell nearly everything I own to get back there (including my kids and husband). Will keep dreaming of getting there for now....and prepare for sale signs to hang on DH and kids....

Your DH sounds just like mine! lol He would never let me go by myself, but if I had someone to go with and $$$$ to go....I would be on my merry way. I am in SC so it won't be any time soon! :icon_sniff: Consolation "prize" for me is that we are renting a cabin in the Pigeon Forge/Sevierville TN area for 10 days in late September (my bday/our anniversary). There is a wonderful quilt shop in downtown Sevierville called the Cherry Pit....have been there one time 4 or 5 yrs ago when I "attempted" quilting the first time & just gave up trying (my loss). Anyway this shop that looks so little from the outside, is amazing on the inside. Quilts, wall hangings, bags & other projects EVERYWHERE. And the fabric.....oh my.....the shop is divided into several little rooms each with a new surprise! They even have "husband seating".....for the dear hubbys that can sit contently while their wives spend all of their $$$. :D Putting aside (or trying to) for that special trip....just gotta stay away from M* DD for a while!

I also have been there with my daughter. Daughter lives in KC and Hamilton is about 45 min outside of there! , M*Q was wonderful and I'm glad I finally got there before I moved to Ca in June. Jenny was not there as it was a Saturday. I'm so disappointed that ill probably not make it to a retreat since I've moved! Not written in stone though, can always plan a visit and a retreat outing for the same time frame!

I got all the stuff I needed to make 8 of the pillow cases for my grandkids.

Likewise, I'm lucky, too!! Only a 40-45 minute drive away and I've been there so often I can't count. It is just like . . . well, visiting your best friends.

Re: How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
I was amazed when I stopped by. We were on a road trip to California and back and stopped in Hamilton. Of course it was intentional and the first person I met was Jenny. I went to the old shop by accident and there she was, by herself, I told her my name and she gave me a hug. She is a very special person to be so warm and welcoming. The rest of the crowd was the same when I made it to the new store and spent at least an hour. My DH went and washed our truck while I was there just to pass some of the time. He also met and talked to Ron and some of the others. It was a visit I won't forget and I have a nice picture of Jenny and myself to help me remember.

Re: How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
Never been. Sigh. A daughter used to live only three hours away from M*, but I could never tear myself away from my DGS long enough to get to Hamilton. Someday, though, someday ...

Not yet, but a group of us will be going the first week in October. If you are interested check it out under the groups tab at the top.

Re: How many of you have actually met Jenny Doan or been in her M* shop?
Someday... but i'm waiting to see what kind of offers they come up with when the retreat gets up and running...would definitely want to be within "walking distance" of this terrific sounding place.. I could not bear the thought of going for just a few hrs..... I'm hoping for a "get away package" of sorts...for a few days with perhaps a class or seminar type thing! Kind of like the MQX expo I attended this year in May... Maybe not on such a grand scale, but I can't tell you how much fun it was for a "quilter and crafter"!!!!NO stress or rushing..plenty of time to wander and rest when necessary...
