I just got a pack of 5 replacement rotary blades and when I opened the pack, the blades were all oily. I've never had this with the singles I've purchased. Anyone else get the 5 pack with oil all over the blades? Normal?

Yep, that's normal. I just carefully wipe mine off with a kleenex. I think they do that so the blades don't stick together.

Mine came like that too.....30 of them, all stuck together w/oil!
pat.
No rain....no rainbows!
THe oil is to keep them from sticking together and from rusting. Be very careful when you wipe off the oil, those new blades are extremely sharp...but of course, you probably already know that!![]()

That oil smells . I didn't know it was oil till I started trying to get the blades out and yuck, what a mess I made. Had to wash my hands twice with lavender soap to get the smell off my hands.

I bought a 5 pack several (many?) years ago. Be careful - that oil becomes gummy and I had the very devil of a time getting those sharp little buggers apart! I think I managed to pry off a couple using a clothes pin and some elbow grease with the seam ripper. I was about to give up and buy new, but finally managed to get one off the stack - without bleeding all over the place!
Ooooo, that does NOT sound like fun! My last pack of 5 that I opened had oil all over them, ick! And I knew the smell immediately, my dad was an auto mechanic (oil, gas, grease...oh the memories), I bought some 4-5 yrs ago (when I first attempted to quilt & gave up too soon) bought a 5 pack back then and while they had oil on them, it was nothing like this last pack I bought! Maybe this the reason there is an oil shortage!! LOL
I did write Fiskars about it and this is the reason for the oil,
"Our blades are packaged with oil on them to prevent rust/corrosion while they are sitting in warehouses and other distribution centers. The oil is not harmful...if there is excess, it can be wiped off."
Odd that the single packs never have oil or at least the ones I got previously. I just used the last single package when I changed both rotary cutters. For some reason the single blade one is not cutting as good as the one I took from the 5 pack. Wondering if I put the blade in wrong![]()

I recently got a Gingher right hand rotary cutter and wanted to christen it with a pinking blade. I almost cut my fingers off until out of frustration I told hubby the Olfa blades didn't fit and I don't even know the cost of the Gingher bladed. He took the blade and cutter to the basement. Returned 2 minutes later to tell me that the blade fits when the take the straight edge blade that it came with out.
I can always out do a "duh" moment. I hope I made you feel better.
