    Default Arrgh!

I finished piecing a star quilt today and usually I forget to square the blocks but I decided to do it today. My mistake! I know that you need to sq. the size of the smallest block and the first few were significantly smaller, so I did what I was "suppose" to do. Hence, my arrgh! Yep, I will lose my points when I start sewing them together. The hard part was that most of them were the size I needed, but about 3-4 out of 12 were smaller. Oh, and the other mistake I made was a fundamental one, I did the last 3 blocks on a different sewing machine because mine is in the shop.
I knew better, but didn't listen my own warning. That will teach me!!! (I hope)

Ooohhh, that is so frustrating! Do you have enough fabric to do the 3-4 again? For me it is sometimes worth the extra work to make it to suit me. On the other hand, maybe it won't be all that noticeable. We are sometimes our own worse critic. Hugs.

I didn't realize when I started that it was going to be 3-4. By the time I figured it out, it was too late. Live and learn (again!)

I swear everything I make is a learning experience. I know in my head that is a good thing but when I am in it I feel like I haven't learned anything other than the fact that I made yet another mistake. I now press and measure all of my blocks first before squaring up.

Don't know what you are specifically making, but could you make the quilt any smaller so you don't have to deal with those smaller blocks (since you don't have fabric to make more blocks)?? I did the same thing on my first & (so far) only attempt at a chevron. Luckily I didn't get too far, before knowing what I had done.....so I do have fabric to do the color combo I want, just smaller....a wall hanging or a table topper. Hope your day is better today!

Colleen, someone posted a link to a video recently that showed how to separate your blocks before squaring up - and how to determine which ones to square and which ones to replace or redo . . . too late for you now, and I wish I had the link saved because I quite often do the same thing you did.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

Are you talking about the cozyquilt.com video recently by someone named Sharon [?] It was pretty long but sure had some good info and instead of cutting down blocks she advised to add a narrow sashing strip to the outside edges of each block then square that up. You won't lose your points and the slight difference in the size of the narrow sashing strip won't be noticeable. it really set off the beauty of each block she was showing which was a sampler quilt.
