Oh no! Perhaps you can sew a narrower seam?

I have a terrible confession to make. I never square up my blocks! I stretch the small ones to fit and ease the bigger ones in to fit. The quilt tops always seem to lay flat and come out just fine. I know you're supposed to but it never works to my advantage to do it so I just don't even try anymore. The only time I really needed to do it was when I was part of a block swap and some blocks were an inch too small!

ps Once your quilt is all put together no one will notice any star points that are a little duller than you'd like them to be. I know I wouldn't notice!

For swappers the world over I say THANK YOU. I have gotten some blocks in swaps where the size was apparently a generic guideline, not to be followed. That to me is very disappointing since I put effort in my swap works and I would like to use what I get back. So thanks for being conscientious.

Just to be clear, my blocks weren't an inch too small! Some that I got were. I was very sure to make mine the right size. Just sayin'.

Hehe, I think I got some of those blocks too. I added sashing to make them bigger rather than trim the others down. Didn't want to lose points on those. I tend to err on the blocks a little bit too big when doing swaps, just to be safe and I won't square swap blocks before I send them. It gives the receiver a little extra wiggle room if they need it.

Oh, I guess I misread. Sorry about that. Still glad you made yours the right size. Amazing how many people won't. I decided that I cut my off-blocks into circles - then it doesn't matter what the edges look like. I use Cheryl Phillips' circle ruler to cut mine - it works like a charm.

Have you tried blocking them? Sometimes you can get that extra bit out of the block if you starch it (or use Best Press type starch), then press it to size and pin it to dry. I have had luck with that method as long as the difference in size isn't huge.
