I've used wool batting and love how the quilt drapes. It is warm and soft. I did wash it but did NOT put it in the dryer. I hear that's where you will get shrinkage. I let it air dry in the kitchen over some chairs and it did not take very long. I'd use it again, but only in a special quilt as it is more expensive that the 80/20 batting I usually use. I got this one at a great discount at a quilt show when a vendor was packing up and he did not want to bring the batting back home with him.
I'm sorry about the trouble you're having with your quilting! Yes, some days the seam ripper is my best friend. It can be very frustrating.
