Give him a dust cloth when it's all over, then he will know you weren't overreacting. haha!

I still have an old dresser from when my HUSBAND was a child! We used it for our kids too, then I had to choose: junk it or refurbish. I chose to paint it high gloss black with white drawer fronts and black drawer pulls. My kids liked it so well that it is still in service. I find those really old out of date pieces of furniture are a great place to try out new skills.

For me, it's all about Love, . . . Always!
I am using the bedroom furniture I got as a teen in our guest room with the exception of the bed, it is a queen instead of the double that was orig. Now they call it mid century modern, lol.
I also have a dresser in my sewing room that was my BIL when he was a boy, solid rock maple and mostly in good shape except we whitewashed it 20 years ago and the paint has yellowed. It is perfect for storing sewing supplies and tucks under my cutting table pretty well. I should paint it again...... another UFO.
I prefer old furniture. It's often better made. If you look at the table for an old treadle machine, it's usually good wood, decent hinges dovetailed drawers. A lot of the stuff today is particle board.
I grabbed the dining room. Odd size, and wide open but it's a space.
When we bought this house 13 years ago I had told my DH "one day the attached garage was going to be my sewing room". Well one day about 8 years ago; well after he had a 3 bay garage built for himself; I simply said "I'm ready to make my sewing room".
By the time I got home from work he had the garage door off and had cleaned it out.We done all the work ourselves ( thank god for the DIY channel) we raised the floor 2 feet put a window in removed the outside door, built a closet ,drywall, laminate flooring and so on and so on and watta bing watta bang I had my own space. I have never looked back. Granted it looks like a bomb exploded every time I sew but it is my bomb and I clean it up and wipe it out again and again. If I were you I would definitely get my own sewing space because I use my sewing space waaaay more than my DH uses his 30x40 garage! Now if only I could get them to quit bitching everytime I spend time in there I would have it made
Just go for it!

Both my older 2 sons got married 33 years ago this summer and everything of theirs went with them, especially their books from college. DS#3 lived away from home during college, grad school and afterwards until he got married so somehow he left lots of books behind in his old room here. This week he will be moving in with us for awhile and when he leaves he has the option of taking them with him or bringing them to the recycling center. I think the recycling center would be best as he hasn't felt the need for them in 20 years. He originally was a Political Science Prof but somewhere along the line got into computers so those books aren't of use to him any longer.

**hangs head in shame** I am a hoarder. I hate to part with stuff as there is usually some sentimental connection to it. BUT, I do curb it and once a year viciously purge anything that does not make me smile. As a child we moved around a lot from my dad's military service, so it is my theory that now I make up for it by keeping everything.
Hubby and I try to keep equal personal space (though he does claim the kitchen is mine which is usually met with the typical eye roll and a snort). Stake your claim sweetie and fight to the death for it.![]()
