So pretty! When I renovated my aunties house in CA I took out this huge ficus tree (some tree huggers were mad but it was taking down a wall) and put in crepe myrtles (tree form). The landscaper said wow those are really old school. lol I love them! People walking on the street kept saying wow what a transformation
I have one in my yard (bush) It was supposed to be a tree but dh went over it with the lawn mower. lol But it's not doing well. How often do you cut it back?

they are supposed to not be winter hardy here, but these are 6 years old and I always forget to wrap them before hard freezes. This year I just pruned the tips to remove the old seed heads, that got them going big time. This is the earliest they've bloomed and the most prolific with the flowers. They are in full sun all day, that is one thing they really love. I've grown them in the past, they weren't in sun all day. That bush died back each winter and had to start from scratch each year. I love them in Virginia, they are trees and just beautiful.
Is this a special kind of crepe mrytle to grow around here? I've not had any success with these and I love them.

Beautiful Jean! I have the red crape mertle and mine start blooming in late summer early fall. Not sure why so late but I have Rose of Sharon blooming now and even one of my hen and chicks are blooming? I have never seen this happen before. I done some research and it sais it will die once it blooms.Has anybody else seen this? I should post a picture.
Thanks for posting Jean I love flowers!
Thanks Jean. I think I'll cut it back today to get more bushy. Mine is a real dark pink.

[QUOTE=Jean Sewing Machine;351721]These are my two crepe myrtle buhes. They have never looked more lovely! They must be happy campers with the rain and sun we've had lately!
Jean - those are gorgeous. I have some in my yard that have literally become trees, mostly because I would never let my DH prune them. Everyone else's crepe myrtles have been and still are in bloom. Mine never bloom before mid August. Not sure why that happens. We get occasional freezes here but it has not harmed my crepe myrtles. Yours are truly beautiful. Enjoy them while they last!!

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.
They are wonderful!!!
