Default Anyone Else Have This Problem?

When I buy JR, I struggle in figuring out what to do with them. So then I buy Layer Cakes and I struggle finding a pattern that I want to make. : P
I know there are plenty of patterns out there but I usually choose the one that need both JR and LC. I'm currently working on finding a pattern for the Ellie Ann JR. The DD has the layer cake on sale. I hate buying fabric without a plan in mind.
With this particular JR, it has a lot of light colors. It would look nice made up into a Jacobs Ladder, but then I would need charms or LC.
I guess there's really no question here other than does anyone else go through this?

Coleen, I know just what you mean! I have the Ellie Ann fabric already that I am planning to make a Dresden Quilt with. I also have the JR in the line, but will give it to my Aunt as she ordered the DD tonight. She usually buys a ton of yardage, which I feel the pain of when I go over to her house to try and help her organize. My cousin, also a quilter, told my husband that all that disorganization is his future. LOL...so I talked my Aunt into buying the LC tonight.

Boy, did I make a short story long! But you know what? That's what it's like talking to me in person! I start with one subject which leads into another because I seem to think they go hand in hand.

So, to answer your question...I think the Jacobs Ladder or even Katie's Quilt would be pretty. What say you?

A lot of patterns have a Precut paired with a solid of yardage. If you are unsure when you order a precut, think of a solid that might go with it, and order a yard or so of that.

I got the Ellie Ann charms from an Eleanor Burns workshop. I bought cream yardage to go with it. I jumped the gun on this and purchased it before MSQC put it up for sale. Missed some good deals. I'm going to make my charms into a falling charms queen quilt for my bed.

I know how you feel ! My problem is that I look at all the wonderful patterns I could use but then I have trouble finding the material.
    Happy quilting !

Funny you started this thread I was just going to ask a question and start a thread about JR....so if you don't mind I'll post here and maybe you'll like this pattern as well. I usually shy away from pineapple quilts since they waste a lot of fabric but I have the Harmony JR and saw this on facebook from Bonnie's page and thought with white its perfect. I struggle with JR too, I have 7 so I ordered a bunch of tone on tones to match with them. So what do you think? I like what she does with the waste as well and I'd put those on the back so this one has no waste.

I just remembered, here is a quilt I started, yes...it's a UFO. But, I've made this using yardage cut into 5" squares and 2 1/2" squares. The possibilities are endless if you put your mind to it, which is hard for me to do. haha

I've purchased several patterns from www.cozyquilts.com. The owner/designer does a monthly design and presents it to her quilt shop customers in YouTube segments. It's called "Strip Club" and the designs are amazing, and all done with 2-1/2" strips. She shows the piecing for each block. She is more laid back than our Jenny, goes slower, but explains very thoroughly. It is still very entertaining. You might try watching some of these videos for inspiration for using JRs in some different ways.

ohh yep, I feel your pain! Actually the more pain I have in my neck, the more likely I am to hunt fabric online in the wee hours with NO clue what to do with them I really like the 1 Layer Cake 1 Jelly Roll pattern, it makes up so pretty and Fast! Love Jelly Roll quilts too, and see tons of the 3Dudes in color I never think of!!

Jelly rolls - got some from Big Lots (not exactly wonderful quailty, but cheap)... and only about 5 varied fabrics. I've been using them as Sashing in quilts, Binding works too. Still waiting for rain to stop enough to get my last quilt began "quilting" so I used the extra squares and jelly roll strips and made a couple matching pillow shams.

ooops uh Sew Perfect I think we have alot in common!!! hahaha Well anyway, yes! I really do buy a lot of fabric with nothing in mind - BUT when sorting through it's like finding tons of great combo's that seem to come just at a time when I see a Great new pattern to try!

Oh we could also use them as "test" blocks! I need to do more of those... will I like a Jacobs ladder in those colors? Instead of doing an entire quilt - whip a few blocks up as a test for the colors? Do you still like them?

Good luck, it's great Jenny and others have new tut's or patterns coming out to keep us busy and thinking :-)
