This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
Peggy Martin had a great tip that I love and am using for a quilt i am working on now.
All those little pieces that you can't throw away can be used. Get a roll of adding machine tape, the kind that does NOT have thermal treatment. Then just sew your little scraps on that! Make them wonky, make them uniform, no problem. Then use as a border around a block or your quilt. Voila!
It's like paperpiecing, just no pattern to follow. It's fast and fun and you use up your little scraps too.

What a great idea. Neat to have by your sewing machine as a starter and ender.
What is a thermal treatment?

thermal treatment is a special paper....at work we use it in the credit card machine

That sounds fun! Do you have a link or a picture?

Great idea!
I googled and found this excellent tutorial: The Woman on the Hill: Pieced strip blocks

Oh, I like this idea - especially if you use it as your leaders/enders, since it would keep the strip in progress all together, instead of having small parts sewn together and forgetting what they were for.....

What a great idea; some of these would make great little doll quilts for the grands.

How much fun! Would be good to do with the little scraps of fabric from the quilt you are working on--then the pieced border would be of the same group without out all that extra cutting....hmmmm....

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
I knew there was a reason I had saved several rolls of calculator papers . . .

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
This is an absolutely brilliant idea. Thank you so much, I hate throwing any fabric away.

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
That tute is just exactly it. THEN.....save all the tiny scraps from that and use them as stuffing for a pin cushion or...whatever! NO WASTE!

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
I LOVE that idea!! I just threw some little pieces away tonight because I didn't think there was anything I could do with them. Knowing me, I will end up digging them back out of the trash. LOL

What a super idea. I don't have adding tape but could use those strips of paper left over from paper piecing prints.

This is a fantastic idea and they're getting rid of a bunch of it at work. These will make great little borders or scrappy quilt blocks!

Megan,
I must have several yards already using this method; I am so scrap happy that I don't want to waste any. I generally save up a plastic grocery bag and then spend some time sewing them all together.
What doesn't go into the adding machine rolls, I foundation stitch crazy quilt style on foundation (telephone book pages or light weight fabric) and then if it is too small, I throw it in a bag to make pillows for the local animals shelter. Waste not, want not!

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
I have saved small pieces that I knew I could sew and I have been trashing the rest. How will I sleep tonight!!?? I could have used your example and Blondie's example, for pillow stuffing. You can bet I will be saving it up now!

Super idea! Love these kinds of quilts because you can look at it and see everything you have made in the past year or so all in one scrappy awesome project!

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
Good grief! I have been tossing out perfectly good adding machine tape from my calculator! You can bet I'll be saving it from now on. I can't wait to get started doing this!

I've seen where they keep the adding machine tape in one piece. As they sew pieces, they just roll it up and then when needed, cut it. I could roll the fabric end around an empty toilet paper roll that I was saving for Sunday School crafts.

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
Great idea. And what do you know - I have an adding machine on my desk/sewing table combo. Not that its plugged in LOL - my classes this term dont require math work.

Re: This is what i do with all the little pieces of scraps I can't throw away
Ok - what am I missing as a green newbie??? So you sew the first piece to the paper and then sew the other pieces to each other but you never sew the later pieces to the paper? How does this help? Or are you sewing them to each other down onto the paper at the same time. Sorry - I know nothing about paper piecing. Thanks

What a great idea, I have lots of really small scraps.

I need to remember this one. What a great idea for making crazy quilt doll quilts, small table toppers, etc.

Brilliant!
Such a great idea. I can't wait to start!

I have a plastic bag next to my machine. Scraps go in there and when I feel like sewing, but not on a project I just make a length of this. Keeping them for a project I will tackle later. I knew Blondie, Sandy or Jean would know about this.
