Stash Management
Attachment 52027
Hope that works - haven't tried to upload a pic from my phone before...
Hi everyone!!! Well I've been in and out but not posting much, trying to catch up on so much so I can get back to work!!
This alone has taken me nearly a week to do, I've been sorting, measuring and cataloging my stash. These two shelved are packed 2 deep with most of my yardage pieces over 2 yards. The louvre door cupboard next to them is full of blenders, appliqué/stitchery backgrounds and individual backing pieces ( I buy backings in bulk on a roll usually , they're in another corner). Then there's more cupboards for pieces over 1/2yd but under 2 yards, two tubs of panels and 8 tubs of fatties. Plus I bought a small shelf unit for precuts, only to find they don't all fit.
And to top it all off, I found a local store which has about a quarter of its quilting cottons for $3.95 a metre. Coz of course I needed more!!! Lol
Hope all of you thinking you're a fabric hoarder feel a bit better now :-))
Cheers, Pami

Re: Stash Management
Oh good. I thought you were saying I needed to hire a manager for my stash.... :)
-
Re: Stash Management
Lol not me!!! I've got a full time job on my hands right here!! :-)

Re: Stash Management
Looks like you're giving MSQC a run for their money, that's an amazing stash! I've been quilting since last August and still don't have enough to fill half a small drawer!

Re: Stash Management
Oh that´s a nice stash, I´m a little jealous. My amount of fabric can´t be called a stash because I don´t have much. My DH thinks I have, of course. He doesn´t understand the concept of building or having a stash... ;)

Re: Stash Management
Hi Pami.................good to see your post! Haven't seen you on the forum much lately. Now that is quite a stash..........have fun playing with all that fabric!
-
Re: Stash Management
So what time does your store open??? :)
Very impressive, Pami. I'd say you are doing a great job as you re-introduce yourself to your wonderful stash!!

Re: Stash Management
So very jealous.....but maybe not, I would feel the need to get something made from all of that.:icon_rolleyes:
My lot looks pretty skimpy compared to just what I can see in the picture and I thought I had a bunch.
I don't have nearly as much as my DH thinks I do.:D

Re: Stash Management
Very nice. I was searching in my stash last night for fabrics to match to make pillow cases... and found I just don't have enough! I have a whole bookcase full but the bottom shelf, and still...have my main fabrics I couldn't find anything to match! I thought I had plenty and haven't been shopping lately, but I need to start, my other problem tho is that I can't afford to just keep buying and making and giving away. I have to have a way to at least re-coop my expenses of the fabric and so far, selling hasn't been the answer! So I guess I have to figure out how to just do with the stash I have! What a horrible thing a quilter should have to do!

Re: Stash Management
Great organization and stash. Now you need to get busy using some of it up, lol.

Re: Stash Management
Here I was feeling guilty about the amount of quilting fabric I had. Hubby often asks what I need more for. I would need doors on all my shelves to hide that amount.
I bow to you and aspire to have that much one day!

Re: Stash Management
I'm impressed with your management techniques! As for the amount, :icon_tape: ! Those who live in glass houses....
I am currently in "thread acquisition" mode so I can get through some of this fabric.

Re: Stash Management
Lovely stash and organization. I often think of doing just that..........I'm still in the "thinking" process.
The thoughts will probably last awhile. :D:D

Re: Stash Management
I'm in the process of organizing my stash too, but it is not nearly as large as yours. I love having many to pick from when I'm in the quilting mode, but I try to only buy minimum amounts of fabrics I really love. I just picked up some backing fabric with coupons and this week will be some batting with more great coupons. After that, I need to up my supply of thread.
Have fun with all that stash, but I want to see some quilts....soon! :)

Re: Stash Management
Wow THANKYOU guys!!
Please don't feel you need to aspire to this - this is TOO MUCH!! This is a culmination of nearly 20yrs 'buying faster than I could sew it', a lot from when I was working in a fabric store and nabbed lots of end of card bargains' and just basic lack of control on some that are truly ugly lol. The Plan on the uglies was always to use them up in charity quilts but mostly that didnt happen - could never bring myself to donate something foul, let alone work on it. I used to churn out about 2 or 3 charity quilts a week, haven't done that for a while so the stash 're-grew' lol
Apart from precuts I've designer specific patterns for, or commission jobs, I'm hoping having it all so accessible now will lead to great things, including more charity work. I actually miss throwing together fabrics from the stash. I'd like to get thru enough that they're not stacked 2 piles deep so I really can see what I have at a glance.
While cataloging I've earmarked probably a third to donate to charity. My in laws are Salvation Army and they're getting the details for me of some mission work they do overseas, involving sending sewing machines, sewing supplies and (((fabric))) overseas to poor villages so the so the women can make a living. I think they're gonna fall over when they see what I'm about to donate lol
Lets face it, I've created a monster lol
Cheers, Pami

Monster or not.....it is well organized and pleasing to look at! I wish mine was so orderly!
