    Default Building your own quiltingtable

    Kinde of neat.
But I would go crazy about the sound that the foam makes.

How to Build a Cheap Sewing and Quilting Table #2 - YouTube

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The stash to make a quilt to help me cope,
A quilt to give to comfort those I love in times of hurt, fear and uncertainty.
And the courage to keep on sewing when life itself seems held together by a single thread of hope.

No way, no how would I be able to listen to that styrofoam, much less even touch it. Gives me the heebie jeebies. Like fingernails on a chalk board. Good idea if another material was used.

Quite ingenious. I don't think I'd like to listen to that crackle noise either, but I doubt that it would make as much noise as my grand daughters have made today and they're not babies.......17 & 18. Why do girls giggle endlessly? Non-stop giggling! All day long.......my ears are tired.

I have seen something similar done using fixed rate boxes from the post office. i suppose the success depends on how well you can match the height of you machine. I do know from experience just covering your machine with a large piece of vinyl will help your quilt glide. just make sure sure you have it secure so it doesn't shift or you will sew it to your quilt(like i said "from experience" here)

Squeak! I'm sensative to the sound, too. (My sister can't even turn the pages of a magazine without wincing.)

I made my sewing table like this. I got the foam from Lowe's. Two pieces, came to the exact height of my machine. The foam is backed on one side with a layer of shiny silver stuff, very slick, and no squeak. Total cost less then 20 bucks and it works great!!!
