    Default On my next machine....

I'm not ready to buy a new machine yet, but I just realized something I need on my next machine - a stitch regulator. I am quilting a mug rug for a friend on here, and using SITD, and realize just how awful I am doing - my stitches are either small or medium, but aren't equal all over. Hopefully she looks past the mistakes when she gets it!

Oh, and a larger table, larger throat, thread cutters, needle down position, feed dogs that drop, and maybe something that handles layers better, and has a few more decorative stitches? I know, don't knock what I have now. But my Brother XL-3750 isn't strong enough to support my new hobby - especially with all the fabric I have!

In my next one, I want a larger throat and embroidery!! That will not happen for a long while though since my machine isn't even a year old yet.

Amy, look into the Janome 7700 or 8900. You'll be surprised at what they offer. Just got the 8900, was sold because of all of the fractures. Upgraded from a regular Singer sewing machine that is over 10 years old (not made for quilting).

I have a stitch regulator on my quilting machine and find that I do better without it. My stitches aren't exactly even (yet) but I like the overall feel of the machine so much better au natural. Heard the same from my friends too. Just give yourself some more time to practice, it sounds like you are already on a good road to success. The recipient of the mug rugs WILL NOT look at the consistency of the stitches - I can almost garantee it. She'll be tickled pink with the gift.
