    Default Mary Ellen Hopkins

I read on another site that Mary Ellen passed away on July 11th after suffering a stroke. She was in her 80's, but her age was one of her secrets. I used to love to watch her as a guest on Simply Quilts and always dreamed of attending a live class. She was such a neat, vibrant lady.

I would LOVE to get my hands on videos of her classes, but I can't find any indication that there were ever any available.

dwil23......I don't know who Mary Ellen Hopkins is.... The reason for my post is that I see that you are born & raised in Tampa! I was born & raised in Naples. :-) Relocated to SC when I married almost 33 yrs ago. I still have two sisters & my mother in FL. It's great to see another FL native!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this. I also was a big fan of Mary Ellen's and enjoyed her visits to Simply Quilts! She will be missed!

I loved her attitude and thinking out side the box. She will be sorely missed by the quilting community...

I became a Mary Ellen Hopkins fan from watching her on simply Quilts. She had a special way of making new quilters relax and have fun sewing. Her Log Cabin designs are my favorites. I first heard about "finding your personal quarter inch" from her. The quilting world has lost a gem...RIP Mary Ellen.

I had her "It's OK if you sit on my quilt" book. Loved her outlook.

I think I have a few books from her and know I have used them. She was a sweet lady, what a shame she is not with us anymore.

The "It's OK..." book is one of my favorites. I use it all the time when I'm in block swaps or work in a robin. She was quite energetic and funny.
