    Default My new machine!!!

I have been fortunate enough to be able to borrow sewing machines from my classroom(I teach sewing to high schoolers). The sewing lab has Viking Scandinavia 200s and Freesia 415s. The department also has a nice serger, Elna Experience 8300 embroidery machine and a heavy duty machine. Since I teach, the school permits me access and use of the machines. Well ever since I started quilting, I realized a need for my own machine so I can set up a proper work space-which may include some carpentry work by my husband.
After much research, and 2 ebay purchases of used machines that I sent back-I went ahead and bought a brand new machine. Hope it gets here by Friday.

I went with the Juki G210-for many reasons. I was able to test drive a higher end model at a quilt show in April and was impressed with the company. I bought it online and know lots of sewist/quilters recommend only purchasing from a dealer-but the closest Juki dealer is 2.5 hours from my house. I have the option of returning the machine within 30 days(got free shipping today) and I know my local sewing machine shop will work on Jukis.

I decided I deserved a nice machine-I have no other serious passion(other than reading and watching reality tv shows)-and calculated out what my husband spends on golf just during the summer and the machine actually cost less than his hobby!

If anyone is interested I would be happy to provide a review once I get it and play around on it for a bit. From the videos I've watched-it appears to be a nice, high quality solid machine that has a larger harp for free quilting and the deal I got included lots of extras-especially the various presser feet that don't usually come standard with most machines.

So glad to have made my choice and now that I am working on the Mystery Quilt here-looking forward to using the new machine on the project.

Thanks for letting me share my exciting news.

Yea for you!!! Yes, please do share how you feel about it. My high school sewing/tayloring teacher [also the principle's wife] was one of my inspirations!

I would be interested in hearing what you think of your new machine. I also bought my Janome online and have never regretted it. I was a bit worried about what I would do if I had problems, but like you the nearest dealer was hours away. I have had it now for almost 3 years and have had no problems whatsoever. I hope you love your new machine! Congratulations. It will be exciting when it gets there and you get it all set up.

Congratulations! That is wonderful!! You seem to have done plenty of research so should be very comfortable with your decision. I think you should post a review when you are able as I think most people enjoy and learn something from reviews and they may also be of interest to some of our newbies who might be wanting a new machine but are unsure which one to choose.

Can't wait to see what you create on your new Juki!!

Good choice,,,I've not had a Juki, but the dealer I frequent says they are workhorses... enjoy...nothing like a nice new sturdy machine!! Good Luck!!

The new machine arrived yesterday and I have been experimenting on it-but deep down my gut is telling me it's not a good purchase. I may end up sending it back(have 30 days to return). Perhaps I have gotten spoiled by using the Vikings??? I tried to do some free motion quilting with a practice sandwich and it makes a noise(thud) sporadically-almost as if the 3 layers are too much for it. I put the Scandinavia 200 next to it on the table and stitched identical pieces--not only is the viking better sounding, the stitches look smoother. And unbelievably, the new machine with 180+ stitches does not have just a basic plain satin stitch option!
So back to the hunt-and it will be a used machine since I feel more comfortable with the ones made in Sweden instead of Japan. Good life lesson!

Sorry to hear you aren't happy with your purchase. I have been watching craftsy videos by Cindy Needham and she uses a Juki. Not sure of the model, but I was thinking what a nice machine it seemed to be. If you already aren't happy, then sending it back would be a good idea. I lucked out when I ordered my Janome online. I have never been sorry.
