Magic Erasers are the greatest invention ever!
There is an iron cleaner you can buy-comes in little tubes-that works for some things. I've had luck removing adhesive -fusible web or heat and bond- by ironing a dryer sheet. not sure if it would remove large amounts though
Wow! The Magic Eraser took care of the job! I used it with a hot iron and it removed the large portion pretty fast, but the edges of the iron took a little more work because I think it was thicker there somehow.
Thanks everyone! : )
Magic erasers are such a blessing in so many cleaning adventures...
Magic Erasers were my best friend when my daughter was young and flexing her creative wings all over my walls, crayons, sharpies, paints, lipstick, etc. etc. :icon_razz:
That's it! Mr Clean Magic Eraser!

I've had this happen when my daughters were learning to sew. Best product I tried was the iron cleaner from JoAnns. Use old towel, rub on the cleaner when its hot. Takes every speck off :)
Thank goodness for this post! I just ironed over a tiny, tiny piece of fusible backing last night, and my brand new iron got all gunked up! Yikes! I just tried your trick with the Magic Eraser, and it worked , like it says, like magic! Thanks so much for posting this idea, saved me lots of trouble and worry. (And I have also learned to be much more careful about using fusible backings!)
Just caught the tail end of this post but it caught my eye. I
just bought myself a new iron and ironing board ( old one taped together with electrical tape 3 years ago- I rarely used it to be honest ) but since I started quilting 4 months ago..... ( told dear hubby that I was planning to save on dry cleaning his shirts!) My old Iron saw light of day maybe once every few months, now several times a week!
