    Default Need new iron

I am still using the iron hubby took to college 26 years ago. It is not doing well. It will turn itself off and then doesn't want to turn back on until it cools down to room temperature.

I went to check out irons and was amazed at all the options. What should I look for in an iron that will be used for quilting?

I had the same issue with an iron that I had only it was a steam generator, one of the original Rowenta's and it finally gave out after 15 years. I purchased a Hamilton Beach Durathon from Wallie world and I love it. HOT and shuts off after 15 minutes of non use, but heats up super quick, less than 2 minutes and lots of steam, so much that I go though a half gallon of distilled water in a day of sewing. Never knew that my other one was not getting hot till I used this one.. Ohh Baby!

I'm going to watch this thread. I think my iron is dying too. It's suppose to shut off after so long of not using but it shuts off any time it's little heart desires, even with using every two or three minutes. Good thing is: it heats up fast. It is a Black & Decker, probably 5-6 years old.

Maybe 6 months ago I decided to try the Black & Decker Digital Advantage - D-2030 after seeing mostly positive reviews at both Bed, Bath & Beyond and Amazon. Less expensive at BB&B with their ever-present 20% off coupon. I couldn't be happier! Not a single regret. Has a 10-minute shut-off but heats up super fast so not a problem at all if I'm sewing/pressing/sewing, etc.

Isn't that the truth! We buy the expensive irons and they die, but you buy the Walmart special and it lasts for ever and puts out more steam than the expensive ones.. go figure!
