Need your help/input on paint color......
Okay ladies (and gents).....I am about to hit full stride in getting my sewing room together! Most of the junk is gone and ready to think about painting. I do not want white....no optic white, no soft white, no eggshell, no cream. That being said, I am thinking that the room (walls) needs to be rather neutral in color, so my quilt/fabric colors will look more "true". That being said what do y'all think? I know this sounds weird, but I found a pot holder (yes!) that is a color called "cork"....I love the color. Believe me, loving bright colors....there will be pops of color all over the room, but just thinking the walls need to be on the neutral side. The carpet is a lt/med beige (ick), maybe one day that can be replaced....so, there just might be an area rug going over that!! Any & all ideas/input greatly appreciated. BTW....do not plan to do the painting myself. The room has a cathedral/vaulted (?) ceiling. The two tall walls are probably 12 to 14 feet at the very top! The husband of a good friend of mine at church is a painting contractor and is VERY good ( you should see his faux finishes!) I plan to consult him about doing the painting. Thanks in advance!
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
What's your very favorite all-time color? Caution with the carpet color you really need to make certain what you pick for the walls will not clash with it . . . run down to your local home supply and pick up paint chips. The last time we painted our master bedroom I bought 'samples' of paint that I liked and did swatches of each color on the wall and then 'lived with it' for a while to make certain it was 'just right'.

Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
I painted my entire basement a color called wiemeraner( like the dog) it is a grey beige. Looks wonderful with white doors and woodwork, and is a great neutral. I see this color in so many display rooms. We were afraid it would be too dark for a basement, but it give a great ambience. I think it was a Martha Stewart color. But it was done 7 years ago, so I don't know if it is still available.
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
If it were mine it would be shades of purple and pink!
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
I have been brining home paint slips for the past month and I have finally settled on a really really really light pink. Now to get down that blasted wallpaper!
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
I would go with a very pale yellow or blue or moss green, but that's just me. How much natural lighting will you have?
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
As for my favorite color...purple! :D
My kitchen is sort of a buttery yellow & master bath is a sage green (name of paint is Heaven's Jewel). Really want the kitchen repainted....it's been yellow since the year after we moved in (been in the house 12.5 yrs). It was a new build, but we found it after it had been finished, so I didn't get to pick out any paint colors, fixtures etc. So got stuck with all the inexpensive (cheap) stuff that the builder chose. All the walls in the house were what I refer to as "builders beige" and it was put on so thin, that when wiped with a wet paper towel it came off!!! Living room was painted 3 or 4 yrs ago, it's a darker terra cotta, that's not the name of the color...I can't even pronounce it! lol
Natural light is good.....during these HOT summers probably too good!! That big room gets really hot in the summer, even with the ceiling fan on. And I am in that "special" time of my life....personal summers etc. :icon_rolleyes:
Thanks for the input!
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
Hi Terri, I would recommend getting a couple of sample paint jars......like Sandy mentioned. We've done that before and it helps to see a big swatch or two on the wall before you decide.
Personal summers.........never heard it called that before! :)

Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
Yes, agree with y'all....thinking that the sample paint bottles would be the best option. I have picked up paint chip after paint chip, but nothing has "clicked". The room that I am redoing was once upon a time (seems like yesterday) sons #2 & #3 bedroom. When son #2 moved out, son #3 wanted to paint the room (keep in mind son #3 has been married almost 8 yrs) and he wanted a DARK hunter green. My response was no way.....it would have looked like a huge cavern being that dark!! So I went to Wally World and picked out two of the darkest greens, I felt I could live with and got a quart of each....this was back before the little sample bottles. Yes, it was a waste, but better than picking a color...painting the room & hating it. So currently there are two LARGE (2' x 4') green patches on the walls!!! Dear son never would make up his mind, and before we knew it....he was getting married & moving out. It has been the designated catch all or junk room ever since....so the green areas remain. :icon_exclaim: So I guess a couple more areas of paint won't hurt, until I make up my mind! :icon_beuj:
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
My craft room is orange. For me it was more about a color that made me happy to in the room.
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
After everyone's input....I think I will look at a couple of neutrals that I really like and a couple of pop colors that I REALLY like (this room won't be painted very often due to its size)! And then go from there. Thanks y'all!
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
I'd put the neutral colors on the walls that are the hardest to paint. That way if you want to change the color of an accent wall, it won't be too difficult.
With walls that size, you should be able to have a fabulous design wall space!
Colors are such a personal thing. I'm in agreement with the sample idea though. Our True Value Hardware paint department has the largest sample sizes I have seen and in different finishes for $5. Home Depot only has flat samples and about a cup and a half of paint for $4.
Re: Need your help/input on paint color......
Great idea toggpine!!! Never occurred to me to have two/three neutral walls and an accent wall. DUH!! Will have to look for a local True Value....plenty of Home Depot & Lowe's around here. Thanks so much!!:icon_tup:
