    Default Nephew's Wedding Quit Question

So, I have spent every free minute working on this mammoth quilt. I finally got it on the wall and basted. It was so much easier to baste on the wall than on the floor. My question is how do I quilt it? I do not feel confident enough to FMQ this size. I need to do something that I can do with my walking foot. I was hoping that by the time I had her basted and on the wall she would have told me how to quilt her. But no not a peep, I'm at a loss. Please any suggestions?Nephew's Wedding Quit Question-michaels-quilt-003.jpg

That's ginormous. He must be very special. Other than to say this is incredible, I have no quilting suggestion. This is way beyond my level.

If you're using a walking foot, how about creating several sets of concentric squares or rectangles? You could start in the middle with one square, Stitch in the Ditch style, then make a square around that one, another around that, etc. then move to another area of the quilt and do the same thing. If you chose rectangles instead of squares, you could vary them by making some rectangles long and other ones wide.

    Hope this gets her talking!

I think I would quilt on the diagonal, the same direction as the blue diagonal blocks.

Diagonally is my best offer, too. GORGEOUS . . . my colors. Start in the middle and work your way out.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I think the diagonal might be the easiest. Once you have one nice straight diagonal line sewn, you can attach your guide for even spacing. Cross hatching with invisible thread would also be a choice. Personally, I think anything more than straight line sewing on a quilt that size would be difficult without a quilting machine. I hope you have a nice big work space and tables to handle that big quilt.

It's a lovely quilt and I'm sure your nephew will cherish your love and hard work.

I would just STD the whole thing starting in the middle and work to the end of one side; turn it around and start again in the middle to the other side, turn 1/4 turn and start in the other direction again starting in the middle....this way you only have 1/2 of the quilt in the harp area at a time instead of the entire thing squeezing in there....love the quilt!

Wow, Marilyn, that is gorgeous! I would pick a straight quilting pattern where you aren't changing directions with that much fabric to feed through the harp. While I love Guitar Gramma's idea, I think you would go nuts trying to turn the quilt to make the concentric squares. Straight ir diagonal, but go from one side to the next.
