Pay $45 to try and Fix a $150 Viking old machine or buy another machine?
Hi my dear friends,
We are in northern Ohio, got the grocery shopping done and set up inside finished!! Both shops are done except 1 tiny final cleaning so I had a day to run my Viking Selectronic over to my favorite Sewing Machine Center
Ashtrabula, Ohio if you are close - Cases' Sewing Center for 53 years! Well for my birthday 6 years ago, I bought this old metal Viking Sectronic for $150. She sewed so nice for many years.
Before we left some metal part fell off that made the foot wobbly, couldn't sew with that and she went back to Case's. For $45, they could look at it and probably fix her.... Or they were looking at other older sewing machines they had---- Then I spied her... A Pfaff Techtronic 2020 and Love at 1st sight!!!
They were trying to sell her for $500 -- But the older gentleman and I have a soft spot for each other hehehe so I said my birthday is coming up again, what can you do for me -- He knocked $100 off!!!
Then I would give them my Viking and got another $50 off.... They bought one of those fancy lights that stick on and end for $25.00 to add to the Pfaff
Gosh I can't make a long story short -- ANYWAY I got the Pfaff and the light for $35!! Left my old Viking there - Did I do good? Does anyone have this Pfaff 2020 Made in Germany?
Very stong, quiet sounding motor that purrs and sews like a dream on my swatch test. Wanted to hear if anyone else has one?
I'm missing the manual but will find it online and get.
Yahhhhhhhh another sewing machine :-)

Debbie- can't say about the Pfaff...I do know that they are made by Viking now. I have my first Viking that is now 40 years old. She has had to go into semi-retirement, as I have put waay too many miles on her. So I replaced her with the anniversary Viking that was put out for their 140 th yr. celebration. The old gal went up to the cabin in Canada where she will see summer time use only.
I have got to admit that I can see myself using anything else besides the Vikings. In the past 40 years, she has been in for service three times. Can't get much better than that. A true workhorse. The new one and I are still in the dating stage of our relationship. I suppose it would help if I could find a name for her.....

I have an old Pfaff Creative 1471 made in West Germany and it's still going strong. I got it used about 23 years or so ago. I think it was one of the first computerized machines.

Loved my old Viking so much I also bought the newer 875Q for quilting, already had a cheesy Pfaff Hobby but it's still going strong too... Oh thanks Karen, I think the Vikings (the ones that were still made in Sweden) and the Pfaff's that were made in Germany, before Viking took them all to Tawain? are great machines!!
Since my Pfaff Hobby was up on the table I'm piecing with it right now (well a break *right* now) lol but finally able to get a few hours of sewing time in! OHHH now I really need the manual, he mentioned it was computerized but brain wasn't thinking other than Must have!!! Very cool your's is still going strong Yeah!!
Also Karen, got to say I LOVE having your user notes to get to the Tuts! Thank you for all that work
