I was browsing etsy for fabric and came across linen cloth fabric. I've done a search for patterns or usage but can't seem to find anything. What would i use line fabric for? What's the weight? I'm thinking it would make pretty curtains but not sure of the thickness. TIA!
Linen is quite often used in clothing, for tablecloths and napkins, or other decorating projects. Draperies - quite possibly - I'd line it though.
Purses, chair covers, home decor projects, clothing. Most 100% linen needs to be dry-cleaned. There are some 50-50 blends, which are probably washable, but I've never used it.
It would make nice draperies, but you'd have to line them. (And dry-clean)
So basically high maintenance fabric? Its losing its luster now!
I bought several weights of linen from this store. Www.Fabrics-store.com. They have 5 or 6 different weights of linen, it is 58-60" wide, washes like a dream, drapes beautifully, and the heavy weight is great for upholstery, totebags. Linen comes in natural colors and beautiful dyed colors. I think it is yummy. It will fray, and it will wrinkle and it is heavier in weight than cotton. Lots of re-enactors and Renaissance Fair people use it for costumes, as it is an authentic fabric that was used in prior centuries. And it breathes, so it isn't so hot. I have linen pants made for summer wearing, and many people who live in hot climates wear linen clothing because it is a cool fabric to wear.
Nice site Jean! I was looking for some linen a couple of weeks ago and bought a faux one. It was just for a craft project but I will save this one for next time!
I have a pretty pink blouse in light weight linen and it's so comfortable. I think I see some draw string pants are in my future. :) Do you use the light for pants?

The lightest weight is like gauze, would make good curtains, so I would go with the next weight up. I think they will let you return it if it isn't right or what you want. I bought this last spring, don't remember exactly what weight I bought. I know I did buy the lightest weight, for some poets shirts but when I washed it, it was very very lightweight, too light for my project.
I just looked at the website again. I would say the middle weight for structured pants IL020, and light weight for drawstring pants, IL 019. Wash it first before you cut it, because it will shrink. I dried mine in the dryer, it came out soft and supple. It will dry scratchy if you line dry it.Quote:

ohhh Lorie, I do adore linen (living in Arizona it's like hades on earth in the summer!). Yes, what Jean said of course!
I found a remeant at Joann's before we left in a beautiful teal green in about a 15oz . Perfect for slacks and not be see though. Also if you can find Batiste 100% cotton, that is great if you need to line the linen (or makes for a great blouse to layer). I've not seen too many linen's in recent years that you have to dry-clean, what great strides!
