Default Second question about pillow cases.

Thanks to everyone for suggestions when I asked about pillow cases...but now my delima...I have been investigating the size of a standard pillow case. A lot of sizes from those that make handmade cases, I looked at others sold on Etsy, and they are this same size...21x32 (give or take) and when I googled "measurement for standard pillow " and went to a few pillow manufactures....it was agreed that size was 21(wide)x32(long). So that is what I made. I cut the fabric 42 wide and then folded it to 21 wide finished and 32 long. I put the case I made on my QUEEN size pillow...and it not only fits, but has a little extra width! My pillow I know is 2 years old and had been washed many times and is a bit flat, but that would (seem to me) make the pillow wider than it was when bought, but a 21" wide or 42 around...is to big for a queen pillow! Standards are smaller, so why does the standard size case fit a queen pillow! Even the length of the case was plenty on the queen pillow.

So.. anyone have any thoughts about this? I want to be selling the pillowcases...and certainly don't want them huge on a standard pillow...they are for kids. I don't have a standard size pillow, but the queen I do have...I would think the case would be snug around the pillow and is is not only not snug, but a bit "extra" on the sides!

I don't know about queen size pillows but king sized pillows aren't as big around as a standard. They are longer though.

The pillowcases made from Jenny's tutorial fit my standard pillows fine.

I recently taught a class for kids camp at Joann's and we made pillowcases.

We used 2/3 yard for the pillow part and 1/4 yard for the case at the top.

We folded it in half and did the sausage method for the case. Our finished size was 20"x 31"

I don't think there is a size a size difference between queen and standard pillows. I have a queen bed and use standard size pillows. The difference between a queen and full bed is only 6" (so 3 on either side). I would stick with the size you are making, and maybe custom orders for king.

I think the only pillow sizes are standard and king. I've never seen a queen size pillow.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. I like a little extra length on my pillow cases. If you make a case and it's too long for your pillow, you can always cut the end seam and make is a little shorter. I always make the cuffs on my cases wider than called for in the pattern also. Normally I cut the main part of the case 30 inches and the cuff 11 or 12 inches.

I actually bought some new (expensive) pillows a couple of months ago and decided to go with queen pillows (since, like Marilyn and Karen I had standard pillows on a queen bed) and it turns out the buggers are the same size, and I mean exactly the same size! And I was dumb enough to pay extra... *sniff*
