Want to make quilt labels with new Brother SE400
Hi, I'm new around here. I just got a new SE400 and I did a search and it looks like there are a few other SE400 owners on this forum. Could anyone tell me how to get started making a label? It looks like I have the right machine for the job....just don't know how to start! Thanks!

You can download Lable designs from embroiderylibrary.com
They have a great selection reasonably priced.

Or you could just use your built in stitches making a frame then lettering with whatever you want to say on the quilt like your name, date, etc.

I use Stitch Era Universal as my merging program since it also does true type fonts pretty well. Stitch Era Universal is a free embroidery digitizing program.

Once my text is added and centered the way I like I take that file into Sew What Pro (another embroidery program) and line everything up in the hoop. I add any frames I want to put on there. Then I convert it to my filetype. I wish I could do everything in SEU but it doesn't have a converter to my filetype so I have to use the second program.
Your Brother machine should be able to easily add frames and text just using your screen so you probably wouldn't have to do all this unless you wanted a specific font.

I just downloaded Sew What last night, and made a label in 5 minutes, sewed it out this morning, quick as a wink!

Cool! You like Sew What Pro better than SEU? I couldn't get Sew What Pro fonts to work for me at all. They all stitched out horribly. Stitch Era Universal did much better with truetype fonts.

What filetype do you need? SEU has so many machine type?

VP3. I know it has like 20 different filetypes but not the ones used for Pfaff/Viking Topaz machines. Converting works though so it doesn't become a big deal I just have to take an extra step to get a file done.

I had to buy sew what pro....can't beat the price... it would have been almost 1,000.00 to upgrade my "customizing"... (come on,,,that's rediculous).... SWP cost me abuot 70.00.. can you imagine... only because my new computer didn't have Windows 7 professional... DH didn't understand that .. oh. well,, he kept another computer hitched up in his office for me to use in a pinch,,, but that's a pain... i bout the SWP... and it worls great for converting etc... a bit touchy using fonts from my computer, but i find it works best if i don't do the "running outline"... trial and error.. but hey,,, i'm retired... not like i have to rush... (other than to get using up all the supplies)..LOL

You sound like Don..."Is it Friday yet?" "Oh, yeah!" "Who cares, LOL!" He says this multiple times a week and thinks he's just as funny as the first time he's said this. (Me rolling my eyes) Got to love the dude!
Waiting 'till SS check hits to buy SWP, I just bought a bunch of Isacore 'cause all I had was Penny colors really and now I'm on a Zander and Oliver run. Can hardly embroider the boys in Hello Luscious colors. Hehe...well I could but Matt might not be too happy about that! :D
