Can I just say I have a love-hate with this tool? I can never figure out how to use it. No matter how often I use it I always have to watch the video, pausing step by step. Often I still end up with my tails wrong and just end up sewing a bigger seam one after the other until my pieces finally mesh together properly. LOL maybe it's just me. A good tool in theory but I struggle and it does not make my life easier.

Yes, it does take some practice, especially if you have an older one that has unclear steps on it. lol
I wonder if MSQC can take picture of the instructions on the new ruler and post them for us. I always have to watch the video at least once if I haven't done a quilt for a while, which is a PITA when you just want to get things done.
I, too have to watch the video each time before I use it. A printed page with photos I could stash away would be so much easier than hunting for the tutorial.
I had to watch the video a few times also. I wish M* would do written instructions for the binding tool...it would help lots of us!
Sounds like a lot of us are the same way. I watch the video, and it makes sense, and then I try to practice what I've learned and... well... it's anyone's guess how it will turn out! lol

I have never used the binding tool. There is an interesting video using Elmer's School Glue to make the end of the binding. That part starts at the 5 minute mark. I lost mine somewhere in the sewing room and am not spending one miute looking for it or crying because it is lost. It never worked for me, and now I have my own method that is pretty fail proof. The only thing I might want to do some day is to do a friendship braid with it, but until then, I'll not worry about the confounded thing.

Wow. I love the trick with the glue but what does she have on the tip of the glue so it comes out so small??

I tried it for the first time yesterday and it worked great and I love it. I did watch the glue video and don't you have to let the glue dry cause you will get it all over your needed and it will squish out the sides. Once it dried won't it be hard? I don't know food for thought lol
I actually like the binding tool. It helped when I started doing the exact 12" space that it calls for in the directions. : )
Hey maybe you have a newer ruler, can you take a picture of the instructions and post it! 'Cause those of us with the old ones are missing some additional steps that they added later on after complaints. lolQuote:

Now I know it's probably too small to read, so I'll type the instructions as well:
1) Sew on your binding leaving a 12" opening. You will need a 10" tail of binding on each side
2) Butt the flat edge of the tool up where you stopped sewing. Bring the binding over the top of the tool (*along the longest edge!) and mark as indicated. Rotate 180 degrees and repeat with the binding on the other side. (*Do NOT flip over your tool! Printed side always faces up!)
3) Open binding, lay rights sides up and cut from the marks you made. Place A tip on one mark (*very tip) and B corner on the other as indicated in diagram 3. Make sure to cut the straight edge as well as the 45' angle
4) Sew ends together. Press seam open. This will work perfectly every time.
I typed it exactly as it shows on the tool aside from the little notes I added for clarity (*like these!)
Hope this helps ladies :) I haven't used it yet, I'm going to use it for a friendship braid table runner instead of using it for binding lol
Thank you Dee! Yes, you have a newer one!! :) Mine has L and R on the tips versus A and B - Wording and Graphics are different as well. Copied yours into a Word Doc/Printed and now is in my binder with the tool. Lets hope I don't need to look up the video with Lily's quilt completion. lolQuote:

I pin the binding at the end 12 inches apart then use the tool to mark and cut as noted above. The I sew the binding ends together before I sew the binding to the quilt, I have not had any trouble with it fitting and it seems easier to me to have it joined in advance. I do use a walking foot to attach it.

i have the tool but never use it for my binding. i bought it to use for the braid quilt.
i have my own method for binding that doesn't require a tool. learned it from a video i found a while ago.
Pam, the metal tip for the glue bottles can be bought separately. They usually come several to a pack. I am going to try the glue method for my next binding. It will be a first.
