I am a believer that anything needs to be 100 years old or older to qualify as an antique. It is amazing the number of things you see advertised that don't meet that criteria yet are listed as antiques. Guess the proper way to list those would be as vintage.

It does have to be 100 years old to be an antique but especially in the States, even Antique stores don't go by that. Just check it out when you're in their stores and read their tags. It's really shameful, but I stopped mentioning it to them years ago, been collecting since I was a child with my Mom. :)Quote:

In the UK by law an antique is an item over 100 years old. If knowingly sold as such and it fails to be so it is a fake and an offence. If discribed as an antique and is under 100 years old it is an offence under the trades discription act. It doesn't stop tryers or the innocently confused but............. ignorance is no defence in law either
I love antiques! I started an oil lamp collection but stopped pretty quickly! No place to put them all. That's really neat measuring tape. Never see one that old.

That is soo cool, thanks!!! :) I guess parts of my house definitely qualify!! The original part of the house ie. Kitchen, living/bedroom are over 100 years old!!!!! LOL can't sell it as an antique though!!!!!! LOL comes with very old termites!!!! LOL

Exactly!!! 100 yrs or older = antique, anything newer than that is vintage. Heck even stuff from the 50's is vintage and collectible, depending on what it is. Same with depression glass. Some of it is quite valuable but not antique, yet.Quote:
