I gained weight, but it's ok.
Dad brought mom up today to spend some time with me. She inspected my progress on the Colors Quilt (almost done) and proclaimed it "quite beautiful". It was such a delightful compliment, and it means so much coming from one of the most gifted seamstresses I've ever known.
Once we got mom all settled on the sofa, Dad showed me a giant garbage bag he'd brought. Inside was all my mother's fabric stash. She's not going to be able to do anything with it due to her stroke. I'm thrilled to have it and have plans to make lap quilts (aka napping quilts) for my dad and both brothers, using mom's fabric.
The bag is quite heavy, so I weighed myself, then weighed myself with the fabric. I gained 16 lbs!!!

How exciting to gain that kind of weight. :icon_woohoo: Also nice to have the recognition from mom. :)

What a great way to gain weight and NOT change your figure!!!!!

Thanks, Pam! We initially hoped and planned on mom making a full recovery, but that's just not going to happen. Every once in awhile, there's a glimpse of who she was, like when I showed her my fabric for the Farmer's Wife quilt and she told me if I decided not to use it that she could certainly put it to good use! Those glimpses are what I live for.

LOL Most of it is leftovers, but there are about 4 pieces of uncut yardage, including some delicious purple fabric that I think is going to become a skirt.

That's the kind of weight I don't mind gaining!! Have fun with it!!

What a treasure from your mom. That is fabric she lovingly touched and worked with and she was here to see it passed on to you. Sorry.....I tend to get over-sentimental. Enjoy it and have fun quilting for your dad and brothers. That is a special project you will enjoy.

Lucky you! I bet you will have a great time going through it all and planning and designing the quilts you will make with it.

I'm like Theda. This is one of those bitter-sweet moments. You have to feel good, yet so saddened to see Mom outside of who you know she is.
Enjoy your fabric and be sure to make Mom a lap quilt, too. She'd really enjoy that, I'm certain. You should have pulled out some pieces of the fabrics she admired in your Farmer's Wife stash - you could make arrangements to get them back from your Dad later on - but it would certainly make her feel good!

Theda, get sentimental all you like. I do it ALL THE TIME!! In fact, last night after they left, I sat down on the sofa, dumped it all out, and sorted through it. DH came to check on me a few minutes later, found me crying. I'd found the remnants of the fabric she'd used to make a Christmas jumper for her only granddaughter, Juniper, when she was 2. Juni was able to wear it for 3 Christmases, but we don't think it'll fit her this year (she'll be 5). This jumper matched one mom had made for herself. We have a pic of the two of them together in their matching jumpers.

Sandy, I got addicted to quilting by making a lap quilt for mom. Next time I show mom my stash, I'll be sure to let her take whatever she likes. Thanks for the suggestion!
