Default Colores Quilt update: 3 left

I got home from work tonight to find DH napping. I figured I'd take advantage of his downtime to get a lot of FMQ done.. It's noisy, and he's such a good sport about letting me work on my projects in the same room where he watches TV. With the Olympics playing the background, I got to work. Shortly before 11 (4 hours after I started) I rewound my bobbin (again), and ran out of monofilament. Took me awhile to track down that 2nd spool I had on hand. I sat down to thread the new spool, because I only had 3 blocks left to quilt. And I realized that I am EXHAUSTED!!! So, maybe tomorrow, maybe Friday, I'll finish the FMQ portion of this quilt. Then I'll switch back to regular quilting thread and begin the process of assembling the blocks into rows and finishing up this quilt.

DH is still sleeping. I'm checking email, then going to sleep, probably on the sofa, because I kjnow if I go into the bedroom at this point, I'll wake him up, then he'll be up half the night. Good thing I have a comfy sofa!

Just wondering what you put in his early evening snack to get him to fall asleep so soundly for so long.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

    ROFL! I'll never tell, Sandy!
Actually, DH has some serious back issues, and is in constant pain. He gets off work at 2:30, is home by 3, and usually has a nap before I get home around 7. If he's in more pain than usual, he'll take some extra pain meds. They tend to knock him out. Honestly, I have NO idea what he took the other night. He slept till after 1AM, got up for a little while, woke me up around 3:30 to go to bed, then got up at 4:45 to start his day.

Sounds like the pain meds kept him soundly asleep. I guess he was too down deep to hear the whizzing of your machine. Poor dear. I'm told those back problems are very painful. Is there anything the doctors can do to correct the problem? Or is pain medicine his only option.

DH was in the Army for 20+ years. About 12 years ago (2 years before I met him) he was driving to work, coughed, and felt his left leg go numb. His commander sent him to Hill AFB (about 90 minutes away) to meet with the base doctor, who specialized in back injuries and surgery. He insisted DH had a herniated disk. DH insisted it was his leg. The surgeon spent 3 years treating him for the herniation before doing an MRI, which showed (1) that the back was fine and (2) that he had a rotated ilium, which pinches the periformis muscle and the sciatic nerve. By that point, there was no way to fix it, just deal with the aftermath.

Because it's rotated, his hips are uneven, causing his spine to be out of alignment, and all the muscles from his hips to his shoulders to be in spasm. When I met him, his pain levels were around a 3 - 5 at any given time. Now he tells me they're between a 7 - 8 on a daily basis. He's tried accupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy, exercise, sedentary, physical therapy, Chinese medicine, meditation, and trigger point injections, all with varying degrees of sucess. The next step, I'm told, is to implant electrical leads deep into the muscles that are causing the most problems (between his shoulder blades) which will send electrical impulses, confusing the nerve endings, and making them think there's no pain. If that doesn't work, there's nothing else to try.

Meli, has he ever tried a Tens Machine? They can also trick the muscles into calming down. I've had 3 back surgeries and nothing has helped. The tens machine at least lessens the pain for awhile. I've had muscle spasms so hard that they have wrapped around my rib cage, and boy is it hard to breath when that happens! My ribs felt bruised and sore for weeks. The trouble with Doctors is they don't LISTEN!!! As for pain meds, the Doctor says," you have to have something for the pain."" OK I say. Are you going to write them?"" No, I don't do long term pain management." I have stopped all my meds for pain. And what does my Doc say to me this past week? "Jan, You have to have something for the pain." I said ya know, I wish you guys would get it right. You blame me if I take them as you prescribed them, and say "you shouldn't take pain meds it's bad for you", but if I don't take something, I'm wrong again, but you won't write them." I got up and left. Idiots! I have 4 doctors I go to: Primary Care, who sent me to the Orthopedic, who sent me back to the PC guy, who then sent me to a doc who is a doctor and a chiropractic guy.And my gyn. They all know each other and they all know exactly what I'm taking. And I still feel like a criminal. So, I got the tens mach. and quit the meds. I've been down more than up recently. I understand what your Husband is going through. Hugs, Jan L.

Jan, oh yes, he has a TENS unit and uses it frequently. It helps some but doesn't really do more than take the edge of. SO SORRY to hear someone else is going through this type of hell.

Remember, doctors have a license to PRACTICE, and they practice often. I have no faith in our medical community any more. DD#1 was ill for many years and they proved to be ...well, I just can't say it here. I'm so sorry that due to delays he now has a problem they can't fix. Saying prayers for you and Jan L. too!
