    Default Need vs Want

The other day, in kind of a snarky mood, DH reminded me that I'd promised him $100 worth of new clothes 2 Christmases ago and still haven't followed through. His bday is coming up, so I was planning on taking care of that (since it's obviously bothering him). Today at work, I was given a $100 gift card as a thank you for being part of an experimental program. Since the sewing machine I've decided on is more than that, and since it is his birthday, I came home and gave it to my sweet man.

I have been doing a lot of research on sewing machines, and found the Good Housekeeping website with sewing machine reviews. And there, on the list, was the machine I've been looking at: The Singer 4411 Heavy Duty. Lots of pros. the only Con is that the needle position knob is hard to turn. I can live with that. This machine runs about $250 - $300. The review had a link to buying it at Amazon. Where I discovered it's on sale for $119.99!!!

I told DH, part of me secretly hoping he'd give the gift card back. No such luck! Oh, well. I want a new sewing machine. But, having looked in DH's closet, I can assure you his NEED for new shirts is real.

Keep checking back with Amazon. They run sales on machines quite often.

Meli, hang in there. God will shine and come through. We've been in the same boat since 2008 with funds due to health, job and the economy.

Your DH does have to go to work in a shirt unless he works for Chippendale's. Now if he does work for Chippendale's, please post a photo...we would love to take a looksy. Miss Daisy has posted a photo of Mr. Daisy with just his quilt showing. lol

Prayers being said that your machine funds come together soon.

OMG!!!! Ruby, you crack me up! No, DH doesn't work for Chippendales. I did show him the pic of Mr. Daisy and told him about the idea for the calendar, but he was having none of it. I couldn't even get a pic of him in his Class A uniform (not tht it would fit him anymore.)

Seriously, if he's a Chippendale we need photos and fast!!! As Meli says there will always be another sale. Sounds like the clothes take priority right now. Darn, it's hard being a grown-up, isn't it?

I am not certain why you want this particular machine. I always thought I had a mechanical machine, but I realize now it is computerized. I have a Brother Project Runway, but looking on line, I can't see the model I have. I bought mine at Walmart, and I think I paid around $100 for it, but it might have been a bit more. I just think you get more when you buy a computerized machine. More stitches, etc. Then again, more things can go wrong. I know it is very hard to pick out a good machine, and I wish you luck in getting one that works wonders for you!

It seems to me we all have an idea here.... Our men don't like us spending money on fabric so we make a Quilt Hunk calendar with our guys in it, sell them & use the funds for our addiction!! Surely they will pose for the camera since it is for a "good cause", their wallets! What do you think?

Back when Mr. Daisy posed with his quilt and there was discussion going around about a calendar I mentioned the idea to my DH. He smiled. I see that as a "maybe"....LOL! He also does not work for Chippendale's, but he's pretty hunky!

Amazon is the place to research sewing machines. Lots of reviews to read through. And the prices can't be beat if you find one you like.

Oh, three words I hate the most "Want vs. Need"!!!! I always want something and I always need something else! I have found that if I gave up a want for a need, I usually get over it pretty quickly and something better that I want comes along

I know how you feel. I had been wanting a new machine for a while, but didn't need one. Then old faithful started whining, and making noise. It has to be oiled by service tech, and I couldn't justify that cost on such a cheap machine. So....Bought a new one. Didn't break the bank, right at $200. But even that amount was hard for me to spend on myself. Not all of us have the means to spend that kind of money without really thinking about it. Hang in there and you will get one, when you are least expecting.
