Default Bethany has three new children in her home

    Hi everyone,

As some of you know, my daughter Bethany is a foster parent. A few wonderful quilters on the forum have made quilts for her children - twelve so far!

Three new children came into her home temporarily today and it would be great if these children could also have quilts of their own. It is so hard for them to have their lives turned upside down and a quilt is a tangible way to help them through all the changes in their young lives.

Donald (all names are changed) is a 7 year old boy. He has curly brown hair and wide eyes. He's tall for his age and very physical. He has taken on the role of parent to his two younger siblings and protects them and cares for them. At the same time he is very young, fussing when his time on the computer is up or when it's time for bed. It will take some time to get to know him but he is a great kid.

Tina is four years old. She has lovely brown curly hair which falls to her shoulders. She has big brown eyes. She is very affectionate and jumped into my arms to snuggle soon after I met her. I got lots of hugs today! She is cheerfuly and sweet. I asked her what her favorite color was and she said, "Blue and yellow. And pink! I like black, too. I like them all!" She's easy to love. Coleen (Brook) has volunteerer her "sensory overload" quilt, as she puts it, for Tina. Here is a picture of it. http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/alb...chmentid=25139

Adam is the youngest at age 3. He is a cutie pie with the same brown curly hair and big brown eyes of his siblings. He ran and played and tried to keep up with the older kids, until all pooped out, he sat on the driveway and colored away with chalk, happy as could be. He has severe speech problem and we cannot understand most of what he says, which is too bad as he speaks so earnestly! His expressions are priceless as he works at helping us to understand what he needs. He'll soon be getting some help for his speech. This is very common for young children in foster care and they usually catch up quickly with a little guidance.

If anyone else, along with Coleen, would like to make a quilt please let me know. The quilts would need to be finished in three or four weeks if possible but if not I can hold off giving the siblings their quilts until I have all three of them. Coleen's quilt is 50" by 60" so Donald's should be that size or a tiny bit larger as he is the oldest, and Adam's can be about 50" square or so. I think that's a good size for a 3 year old to have as he grows up.

Only two more quilts are needed, but we can never have enough prayers being said for these precious children. Please pray with me that their lives will be healthy and whole and happy. God can do anything.

Cyndi, I will try to get one done for Tina. Should not have any problem getting one done in that time frame. Let me know what you want me to do.

Marilyn, Coleen beat you to it! Would you like to make one for Donald or Adam?

And why am I not surprised that you would jump at the chance to make a quilt for a child in need? You're the best!

Ok, I can either do a double slice layer cake with Mischief or red and blue Pirates using that strip quilt method one of the forum members shared the other day. Either one will be quick, and I can get it done in a short time.

How about if I put you down for the next one? There's always a need just around the corner. Thanks for being willing to help!
