SEWWWWW Excited!!!
I've taken a break from quilting in general the last few days, partly because of scheduling conflicts and partly because I'd reached the point of my Colores Quilt that is, really, the point of no return. What I mean is, I'd made the decision to quilt each block separately and join them with thin strips of black. The pieces for the back of the blocks are cut. Some of the strips are cut. I spent quite a bit of time agonizing over whether to use clear, black, or variegated. In the end, I decided on the clear. I just didn't want the quilting to detract from the overall pattern of the blocks. Finally, I just made a sandwich, took a deep breath, and hit the pedal. YAY!!! It looks so good. I know, I know, you want pics, and you'll get them, I promise. But I was so excited that I just had to tell you.
And now... back to quilting.

Re: SEWWWWW Excited!!!
Ok, here are a couple of pictures of the progress.Attachment 25460 Here we have four blocks for the front showing how they'll look with the black sashing between them.
Attachment 25459 And here are the focus blocks for the back of the quilt. I used a log cabin design, arranged in what, to me, looks like a southwestern sun burst, especially with the gold sashing that will go between them.
What do you think?

Re: SEWWWWW Excited!!!
Let us know how the sashing goes once you join them. I'm curious to hear if you found it fairly easy and if it was worth it. For those who like to free-motion it sure would be nice to work on blocks instead of wrestling the whole quilt. I still like the idea of adding batting in stages but haven't tried it yet. I need to do a large quilt to try that. If I make a bed-size quilt I'll give it a whirl.

Re: SEWWWWW Excited!!!
I was going to ask the same thing - let us know how the block connecting goes with your sashing. I am going to do the same thing for my king quilt. I am going to quilt it in quarters and then join it like you are doing. I know how to do it, but have never done it before. Please let us know how it went. I love your blocks. That black just makes the log cabin pop!

Re: SEWWWWW Excited!!!
I haven't done it on any of the blocks in this quilt, yet, but I tried it on some sample blocks. It just takes a minute to join two blocks, then a few minutes to slip stitch the back.
