    Default Thumb Cut

After all of this time, I have never cut myself with a rotary cutter until today, and it wasn't even when I was making a cut. I had my left hand on a ruler and was passing the cutter over my hand when I just barely came into contact with my thumb, and slice! The cutter was at a 45 degree angle as it passed over the thumb. Ouch! I can see where getting one of those gloves might be worth it. I have had the fear of cutting my wrist before.

I think eventually all of us get a nick or two. I did mine about a year ago and it seemed to take forever to heal - sure was sore.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

Hi Joyce, I cut my arm the very first day I used a rotary cutter. I bought the one that you have to retract the blade yourself......barely brushed it on my arm while moving my fabric ( I forgot to retract the blade) and cut myself. It worried me that I could forget that easily so I decided I needed a safer rotary cutter......went back to the store and bought the one that retracts when you let go of the hand grip!

I have three cutters, each stationed at a different part of the room. I really may need to get those retractable ones as you describe. I haven't seen them in the stores, but have seen them in videos.

Also, I have been afraid of dropping an open one on my foot.

Ouch, that has to hurt! I am always afraid of cutting myself and I keep my blade retracted until it is in position to cut the fabric and as soon as I make my cut, I retract the blade. I try to be very cautious, but I know with as much cutting as us quilters do that it is inevitable that my day will come.

    Hope your cut heals soon.
