I LOVE the table your dad made for you, and this has given me an idea. I inherited a mid-century modern desk that belonged to my dad. The base is a standard desk base. The top is made of solid wood, 1 1/2" thick, and is 6'4" x 4'. It is a behemoth! However, something that size is perfect for all sorts of projects. I'm thinking I may want to modify it so I can cut out a hole (meep!) and drop in my sewing machine. I'd save the cut out piece, maybe put a finger hole in it, so that I can continue to use the desk for other things. Now if I can just bring myself to chop up the family heirloom...
