FAQ
I think it would be nice if we had a FAQ (frequently asked questions) section on the forum for those questions that come up time and time again: Do I pre-wash my fabric; how do I wash my quilt; standard quilt measurements; what supplies do I need as a new quilter; what rotary cutter is the best; what kind of thread should I use; can I use polyester fabric; how about sheets as backing; what is the best batting; can I use flannel as backing fabric on a cotton quilt; etc.
I think this would be helpful to new quilters especially if they are sewing in the middle of the night and can't find help right away. We could all input our suggestions into each category. We would still be able to help each other the way we do...but have a help guide also.
What do you think?

Re: FAQ
I think this would be a wonderful addition to the site! Make it easy to find.......questions wouldn't have to be answered again and again.....the info would always be available to all. Great idea!

Re: FAQ
I think it's a good idea as well. Although, if people would try using the search function on the site they'd find the threads asking all those questions that get repeated time and time again.

Re: FAQ
Barb, you're a genius. This is a great idea. I think I would have a bookmark directly to it.

Re: FAQ
Love your idea Barb....I know I need help with those type of questions all the time

Re: FAQ
That is a great idea, Barb! A great reference and all in one spot.

Re: FAQ
LOL Karen. It does sound like a very good idea though, with new quilters joining in all the time.

Re: FAQ
Great idea, Barb. Such a useful thread for us all.

Re: FAQ
It is a great idea, but sometimes things like which rotary cutter or which ruler is very subjective. Some people have cutting systems they think are the best, and that may not be the one listed, or even an alternative. Even such things as whether or not to use steam, or to wash fabric, or to use starch or not is subjective. I agree that searching the forum can be a good alternative to a FAQ, and that will certainly give a new person a million different opinions for their consideration (and perhaps confusion).

Re: FAQ
Experienced quilters have valid and accurate information to share with the newer quilters. Hopefully we have learned something after years and decades of quilting...also we have made every mistake that can be made. I think such a section would be a useful thing....those who don't want to use it don't have to.

Re: FAQ
I would welcome that addition to the site. I have used the search to find answers to my questions and have not been able to find what I am looking for numerous times.
Great idea

Re: FAQ
I am a new quilter and also new to this forum and I would love something like that. Sometimes I have a silly question that I feel would be a bother to ask and if I could just look it up it would be quick and easy. I understand that there will be some things that have many opinions but that just gives many perspectives and leaves the choice to what works best for someone. If there is still confusion we can still ask, but maybe be able to narrow the problem down a little to get the info that we would understand. Sorry, I'm rambling....I guess I just think it would be great to have a section where all the experience of all of you wonderfully talented quilters could leave valuable information for those of us just starting out! Thanks for the idea!

Re: FAQ
Barb, I love this and have tried when I first joined to group all stuff under like headings but gave up. LOL. I think it will have to be maintained and "bumped" on a daily basis or really have a dedicated folder for subjects like
how much yardage/charm packs does it take for . . . ?
what is the best sewing machine?
What about thread?
In a bind?
you get the idea. Once each subject line is present under the FAQ list, folks would know which ones to create or click on?
Big hugs
