    Default King Quilt Progress

I tell you, this king quilt/bedspread is going to take a lifetime! I have all of my 76 blocks done. It seems I needed 72 for an 8 by 9 with sashing configuration. When I tried this on the bed, I am 22 inches short to reach the floor! I am NOT going to make 5 more blocks!!! At least, not 5 more full blocks. So, I need a border. I decided I would make a square in a square 6 inch block out of leftover fabric, and separate each with a 2 1/2 inch sashing on only one side to make it 6 by 8, and then make that into the border. I calculate I will need 60 of those! Is that easier than making 5 more blocks? No, but I think it may be prettier. Then I will finish the remaining border with a strip of black. I may just make this quilt in a square border only on three sides, and not on the top that goes around the pillows as it might just be too big there. I will need to see and adjust as I go along. Who's idea was this to tackle something like this? I have all this new fabric that I am dieing to use, but I will not start a new quilt until this one is done, and that may be 2015!

The worst part of doing a King Size quilt is all the cutting. It takes forever. But the final outcome is worth it. Once you get started putting it together it won't take as long. Trust me like I said I have done three and have one more to do. I hated doing all the cutting and then the making of the blocks before I could actually start putting it together. Good luck. Can't wait to see the final quilt. Hang in there.

Just look at the pictures. Man you are braver than I ever was or ever will be on a King size. Great job so far.

King size, no way! You are a real trooper to do this, but I know it will be worth the effort! Then throw it on your frame and quilt it in an afternoon, and make everyone really jealous of you!

Love purple and green! Your quilt is king size indeed!! How do you quilt it on the frame? Does your frame expand?

My frame expands, but not enough for this monster. I am going to be making it in four quarter sections, which means I will be taking those eight strips and ripping them in half.
